Thundersplace becoming anti-woman?

As you can probably tell from the frequency of my posting, I have really grown to love this place. It presents a wonderful opportunity to exchange very personal views safely and anonymously. It’s also a great place to learn from others and to live vicariously.

I’ve been particularly impressed by the kindness and open-mindedness people have displayed toward one another. We readily help each other with our pee-pee problems. We were even able to get through Bush v. Kerry without spilling blood.

Nevertheless, I’m finding that there has been an increasing trend of hostility toward women in many recent posts. I’m talking about references to CP (I won’t spell it out), anal rape, and fantasies of dominating and/or hurting women. There are also subtler changes, like a proliferation of avatars of hot, semi-naked women.

All of this, in moderation, seemed acceptable to me. Most of it was even funny at first, and seemed to be a proper reflection of free speech. However, when these terms, opinions, and images cease to be a fringe view, it raises a concern, at least for me.

I find this trend upsetting and a little saddening. I understand that many of us have been offended, cheated on, or insulted by women, and are looking for an outlet. I appreciate this. But to conclude that this is a male-female issue is a mistake. It’s a human-human issue, IMO.

Some of us have noted that female participation seems to be flagging. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. I think women are not feeling as welcome here as they used to feel.

I would like someday to invite my wife to join Thunders. But that is not going to happen as long as this trend continues. IMO, we should really resolve to be as respectful, tolerant, and open-minded toward women as we seem to be toward one another.

Hi Modesto, I concur with your findings, but I also realize it’s an open forum.

I cringe at some of the things posted here, but no one is forcing me to read them, and the posters have every right to post them, because it is an open forum.

I made a suggestion recently, of creating a separate forum for the “Older” folks in here, based on what you mention above. Maybe a forum where the serious raunch is frowned upon. And I realize someone will probably post and ask me to define serious raunch.

Maybe a forum for the mellower crowd would fit better, or a “Ladies and Gentlemans Corner”. The Ladies here are all nice and polite, maybe we could get more adult conversation going with less raunch, for those who were interested.

I have a tendency to agree with you Modesto, to a degree. Funny thing is, I stopped using my avatar about two or three hours before you started this thread. I personally find some of the threads offensive, but I just stay away from those as everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I do, however, believe there are alot more areas and threads which are not offensive and are open and encouraging to all sexes. So in that respect I sort of disagree with you. Listen to me, I sound like John Kerry.

Valid concerns Modestoman but I have not noticed anything that would indicate that the members have gone overboard although now that you have addressed this issue I will certainly keep an eye for it and I’m sure the offenders have now been put on notice. I’m sure that an all female forum would have a good share of male bashing and I’m certainly not trying to defend the offenders.
However its sometimes not easy to determine the fine line between free speech and outright abuse because every individual has their idea of what the limits are and what is tolerable.

I think the litmus test for such a determination may be when Anna ;) comes out in full force because I’m sure she would not let anyone get too far. JK kidding Anna. :) I love you!

Hey you have to be a little thick skinned to be a female on a predominantly male forum because boys will be boys but your post is very helpful in the sense that it has already to serve to bring this issue to light and possibly raise the moral conscienseness of those that have overstepped the bounds of what is reasonable.
Some more comments from others will help us reach a consensus here.

Lets not forget that DW and Sunshine can also kick some serious ass if you piss them off!

SixerMan that sounds like an awesome idea. I don’t consider myself “older” (I’m only 31) but I would appreciate an area like that seeing that I tend to be more “old-fashioned” most of the time. (Not all the time. I have to let off steam sometime)

I have always thought of myself as a nice person, never intending to insult or slur anyone. It surprises me when someone responds to one of my posts with hostility. I am learning that when in an online discussion it is easy to misinterpret or entirely misunderstand what someone is trying to say, or what I am trying to say. A lot is read between the lines. I believe a person who wants to be offended by a post will find a way to be offended while others can read, understand, digest, and respond without hostility even when the subject is one of a sensitive nature.

There is also the issues of verbiage. What is acceptable language for one person is horribly offensive to another. A perfect example is the CP word. I never really found it to be offensive and I understand exactly what is being described here, but others simply don’t like it. This is a problem that will not go away and we will just have to do the best we can to deal with it and get along.

As far as Thunders being anti-woman. I hope that never happens. I believe a lot of us are bettering ourselves not only for us but for our girl. I am sure I just offended someone who is here for their man. We must all realize this is a real-world forum with people sharing personal experiences. There are going to be some happy stories and there are going to be some brutal ones. Sure, the Dr. Bitch thread was pretty rough reading at times, but it was a real life story with lessons both good and bad. Oh, and it was funny as hell, too.

I for one would like to see us all get along, but that simply won’t happen when you have a group as diverse as the Thunders community. All I can say to everyone is keep on posting and if something I say pisses you off, take a pill.

Yes, I also support your view MM. I have felt that some of the recent threads have been more to do with sexually avenging a woman because of a supposed insult. Followed by a description that begins to resemble gratuitous violence rather than just having a good bang.

I take the point that we don’t have to read it. But until we’ve read it we can’t know what it is about. Even though we may have cut it off in mid flow.

It’s difficult not to get a bit pompous when commenting about this sort of issue I know, but I’d rather read about someone having a good bang in a humorous situation, than in a situation where pain is inflicted on the woman. Then made even worse by the author enjoying what he was deliberately doing.

A bunch of guys who have been members less than a year talking about the “Good ‘Ol Days”… :chuckle:

I know you say it doesn’t mean “gay”, but if I were to coin the phrase OneHungLo to be equivalent to a loser with a tiny dick, even though I’m not directing it towards you, but everyone picked up on it and refered to losers with tiny dicks as OneHungLo’s. They aren’t saying you’re a loser with a tiny dick, nor am I. But that doesn’t matter, it wouldn’t make you feel good, would it?

I think you should reitterate the statement I quoted.

On a lighter note, when a man is cheated on, and he tells us about it here, we aren’t bashing women as a whole, but rather the person (not woman) who cheated on him. Just like if a black man disrespects me, I’ll give it back to him. Doesn’t make me a racist.

Rather than having a little corner for the ladies and gentlemen where decent standards are observed perhaps there should be a misogynists’ forum where all the anti-women stuff can get dumped by the mods. and decent standards can be maintained everywhere else?
