Wiki average size - why use kinsey?

I was just curious as to why Thunder’s Wiki section on average size refers exclusively to Kinsey? I know that most of us have grown up believing that Kinsey was the true average, but I’m sure you’re all aware many people have challenged the validity of Kinsey and most reliable surveys put the average more firmly between 5” and 6”, sometimes as low as 5.1” for an average when measured independently by urologists as opposed to self reported.

I wonder how much Kinsey has had to do with a whole bunch of guys growing up believing themselves small when in fact they were average. It still seems to be the figure everyone refers to despite being discredited in terms of its methodology. Why is Thunders at least not interested in showing the spread of data out there from more recent surveys?

Sorry Thunder I’m not sure what you mean? Do you mean that it’s editable by users if they would like to modify it? I know what constitutes true average is by no means certain, but I was just curious as to why no other surveys were not included.

lol…it seems I might have a project on my hands once I get my current exams out of the way!

They use that source because the publishers are not particularly concerned about accuracy per say instead they are more concerned about having content.
That’s not to say these guys don’t post accurate content because they do. It’s just that with so much content you really cant expect the site to be the end all source in particular for something like penis size, which is so non mainstream.

But I agree. Quoting a larger size than what may really be average does present problems.

Yeah that’s the page. I just wonder if reinforcing Kinsey as a norm for a visitor to Thunder’s might make many people feel they need to gain 1/2”-1” just to be normal, when in fact they already are. This kind of goes against the accepting spirit of the forum which in general seems more open to debate etc.

Whilst I accept that whilst Thunder’s doesn’t have to be the end all authority on size, it could perhaps be more objective with this info. Particularly as most newbies would go to such a page first in order to set their goals. As it stands, it seems a bit like a pay-site’s average size info, which usually quote the highest possible “average” in order to promote feelings of inadequacy so you break out the credit card. As Thunder’s is not about the money, it doesn’t need to do this. I think a newbie would find it both refreshing and a relief to get a more objective take on the issue.

Thanks Thunder…this may be a “work in progress for some time though, I have to warn you!

"84% of respondents rated their penis size as average to above average."
Human penis size - Wikipedia (midway down under "Modern perceptions")

This statistic makes me thing that most truly average men do not believe they are small. However, how many people are satisfied with an average IQ? An average income? It’s the same thing with penis size. So many believe more is always better so I don’t think the average really matters to men; most want the porn star-caliber manhammer. Really, I doubt accurate statistics would change the perception many men have of their penis.

If you are curious, by all means, go forth. The link from Thunder is good, but I think you should consider the surveys done on this forum as well ( Your Vote Matters! ) since the people here are honest and mature enough, but also have an agreed upon measurement technique (I.e. BPEL) so that the results are likely representative, despite being an internet survey.

Here’s a different look at some of the same studies with a nice breakdown of the Lifestyles study by percentiles:

You get the same kind of numbers when people self assess for IQ or good looks.
