Regardless of the type of wrap configuration I use, I still get more of a skin stretch than ligament stretch. It doesn’t make sense how wrapping is supposed to prevent this from occuring since the wraps aren’t applied to a solid mass.

I’m cloth wrapping 1” behind the head and swim cap wrapping .25” behind the cloth wrapping. Even with this proven technique I still can’t hang for more than 5 minutes due to the unbearable skin stretch pain. Does anybody know if I’m missing some vital here?

Search this forum (early days) for any threads on wrapping. Somewhere in there I’ve elaborated on erect wrapping, the hows & whys. Not for everyone, but I could never wrap flaccid and hang with any degree of comfort whatsoever. groa

What kind of hanger are you using. I’ve been using a BIB starter and although BIB recommends toe out, I find that my hanger “grabs” the underlying structure better by using toe -in. I seem to get much less slippage that way.

Might give it a try.

Try holding back some of the skin near the base when you wrap. If you don’t have the excess skin to allow you to do this, that means you must do some skin stretching. Stretching skin is the most unpleasant part of hanging for me. I have had to do it three times since I started due to growth. This is a good problem to have, but it doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable. If you have been hanging for a while, you should have a little bit of excess skin. Good luck.

Wrapping does not prevent skin stretch. It only protects and gathers the skin to help prevent pinching, and provides a semisolid septum to attach to.

I would say the ‘something vital’ that is missing is; you might be using too much weight. Skin is the first limiting factor. The skin must stretch before you can hit the internal structures. Use whatever weight gives you a bearable stretch. In time, you will notice extra skin and the internal structures will begin to take more of the stress.

Erect wrapping? Anything’s worth a shot.

I used to own a Bib Starter a year ago but got angry about the skin stretching and tossed it in the trash! I regret it now.
