I have been hanging off and on for about 7 months now. I don’t use heat at all, but was considering it. Can anyone tell if heat really has a big effect on gains while hanging??

Maybe someone like myself, who has been hanging for a while without it, then went to using heat and had some REAL gains.

You gained over an inch in 6 months.. those are real gains. Heat will help in any PE routine, so its a good idea.

I have seen some of the hangers here talk about using an infrared light as a heating source. Maybe one of them will chime in with some before and after opinions of using heat “WHILE” hanging.

I haven’t used infrared a lot for hanging yet, as I’m still new to hanging myself. But it’s great for manual stretches. do a normal warmup routine, followed by different manual stretching exercices under the heat. The heat of an infra red lamp brings along several benefits: it keeps your tissue smooth in some way, it makes the skin create vitamin E, which is important for cellular growth, and it warms tissue up to a good ‘operating’ temperature. After all it’s very hard to put it in direct relation with gains, without measuring like a fool. Just buy an infra red lamp, if you find one cheap, and add it to your routine.

After warming up I hang for four 20 minute sets, the first 10 with the IR light, the last 10 without it. I’ve just started to be consistent though, so no results yet. I will say that the stretch feels better with the light then without it. But in just two weeks my flaccid has greatly improved (I use a ace bandage wrap after hanging). The light ended up being about $12 total, so why not give it a try? I do cover my balls so the heat won’t effect them, as there’s been debates here on the effects of heating the testicles.

I find that the best source of heat is a blow dryer on low and about a foot away from penis to keep from getting it too hot.

Heating the testicles

As far as heating the testicles, you don’t wrap ice around them before entering a hot tub do you? Heat won’t hurt those boys as long as it’s not too much heat.

For PE I’ve tried nuked rise sock (actually buckwheat), heat fan and IR. I easily recommend the IR for BTC, but not sure how efficiently you could use it for other angles, particularly OTS. I wouldn’t be surprised if an IR to heat the ligs really changes the pace for many hard gainers. With the IR, I added .6”BPEL in 10 weeks.

I feel that a rise sock is an adequate and probably best choice when IR is less practical; especially if kept slightly moist (the rise/buckwheat needs to be watered now and again anyway; simply nuke a glass of water along with the sock). I use the sock now for OTS, but I’ve just started on that angle. Hot air (heat fan) is IMHO good for manual PE when the room is otherwise chilly.

I used heat during my best gaining times, but doing so was more a function of dedication. It’s possible I would have gained the same without the hot baths and heating pad or rice sock applications.

Heating doesn’t hurt. That I can say for sure. It may help.

I tried an IR light for heat when hanging and hated it. Too hard to get enough light on the right places, too bright, too hot on surrounding areas, too much f’ing hassle. If using IR for hanging I’d probably heat between sets. That could work.

I agree, IR is a bit of a f’ing hassle. Heat is basically a f’ing hassle. Let’s not mention hanging ;)

My IR/BTC thing: Lamp foot ducktaped to a homemade weighted stand, placed on a coffe table in front of my BTC hang chair, lamp tilted down towards the ligs with the bulb screened off from my eyes. Always the same very exact distance between bulb and ligs. Once set up though, it’s consistent deep working heat for every minute I wanted it. It was a hassle, but my feeling is that it really facilitated stretching the ligs quickly beyond the primary stress level. I never used the lamp for more than first half of the first 3-4 sets; at least 2 cold sets at the end of each hang session/day.
