I can't hang for 10 hours per week...

I can't hang for 10 hours per week...

Do you guys think I should invest in PE weights or an ADS?

I’m constantly working on my routine. And now I have decided to scrap jelqs for now, and I am going with hanging only. My goals are only length right now, later I will concentrate on girth.

So here’s my current routine. I hang 3 sets for 20 minutes, 5 days a week. So I get 5 hours/week. I know it is generally believed that 10 hours per week is ideal, but I really don’t have the time. So I was planning on hanging for 1 hour after work 5 days/week. And wearing an ADS or PE weights from 9am-5pm throughout the work day. But no ADS on my days off. The ADS would be in place of another Hang session throughout the day, and to keep ligs under tension.

What do you guys think? Anybody else having success or had success with a similar routine? Thanks.

I hope 5 hours is ok because I can’t do much more. The thing that I want to know is; will growth be half as slow or is there some magic switch time where only 10 hours is good enough.

Any amount of hours will produce results. My data from over two years of hanging showed me that it was the number of sessions that produced gains. It had nothing to do with the amount of weight but everything to do with the amount of time in the hanger. My data showed that it took 22 sessions to produce 1/8”. It didn’t matter how consistent my sessions were. 22 sessions produced 1/8” month after month. Very sporadic routine also which means that I might have had 3 days one week and the next only 2 then I might have had 5 sessions in a row. My weight remained about the same at around 11 to 15 lbs.

09-2003 BPEL:6.0x5.5

How long is a ‘session’ of yours?

Start: October 1, 2007: BPFL 15.2 cm, EG 5 inches

Current: October 16, 2007: BPFL 15.5 cm, EG 5 inches

Goal: NBPEL: 12 inches, EG 8 inches

Realize that results vary. Unlike Monty, my results weren’t directly proportional to time spent hanging. I had to use a mix of deliberately taking breaks and changing angles to squeeze what I did out of hanging.

My best progress beyond my initial newbie period occurred when I was hanging every day after having taken “deconditioning” breaks. Your mileage will almost certainly vary.

There is nothing wrong with hanging 5 hours a week, though I’d try to include some hanging time on the weekends if possible. I found that hanging (almost) every day did not allow the tissues to recover, so I could continue feeling stress with a relatively low weight. For example, if I had been hanging 10 lbs. for 5 sets a day all week, then took the weekend off, I would come back a lot stronger on Monday. I’d need a bunch of sets with even heavier weight to get back to the same level of fatigue as where I had left off Friday. No good. IMO, it’s better to not skip days unless necessary.

In the end you’ll have to discover what works for you. If the same recipe worked for everyone this forum wouldn’t exist.

I think 8 h of ADS alone can give you gains, and adding 1 h hanging a day can only be better. I believe, like Monty that total time under moderate tension is the major point for gains.

I am a strong advocate of no rest days when hanging. I have tried the rest days method and have got results not worth squat. Rest days allow for the tissues to return to the previous state defeating the end result. With the number of hours your hanging, I strongly suggest no rest days. Since I have switched to no rest days, I have gained. I am also looking for length and feel length should be the goal before girth for those who seek length gains. Good luck!
