Theory of Base Widening

Theory of Base Widening

I am just starting to learn some details of penile anatomy. One thing I have often heard discussed on these forums without an explanation is the widening of the base of the penis that often occurs with hanging. Now I am by no means an expert in penile anatomy but I have studied this subject over the last couple days putting in several hours. I would just like to throw out some wild speculatory guesses as to what causes this width increase.

It would appear that hanging allows more of the roots of the corpora to be pulled out from their natural positions by increases in lig length. This newly exposed fascia was previously within the protection of the ischiocavernosus muscles and bulbospongiosus muscle. Now that it is exposed, the fascia are not used to supporting the full pressure of an erection. A natural erection can then expand the newly exposed crura to a greater diameter.

Whats more, the crura do not mesh together as perfectly as at the septum and thus I would expect that some sort of tissue may intervene between the crura, thus contributing to extra girth.

Experts, please weigh in. I would especially like to here what Bib has to say, but I know there are other experts out there, so please chime in.

Thanks for your time,
Tube.

Furthermore, can’t simple geometry explain this?
See the attached image.

Oh, I forgot to explain the image. The dark lines are the legs of the corpora. When you hang you do not change the point of union of the corpora. This means that if you lengthen the legs you increase the angle that the legs of corpora make with the ischiopubic rami (the internal attachment points. This is simply a result of elementary geometry. What you end up seeing is a wider base.

Tube,

Your second explanation is the only thing I have ever been able to even guess as a cause. But I am surely not certain of it.

This topic has been around since I first came on the original PE forums in ‘98. There never has been a definitive answer. If you could solve it, that would be great.

Darn. I was hoping for one of those famous Bib posts where you tear everything apart sentence by sentence. Hey, I think I’ll try out that technique.

<Tube,>
Yes, I am Tube.

What ARE you certain of?

Cool. Who was in charge of the original PE forums? Where did they go?

<There never has been a definitive answer.>
Until now Bib, until now.

<If you could solve it, that would be great.>
hmmmm. I’ll get on that. Unfortunately it will require a fair number of cadaver penises, and unfortunately people aroud here don’t “like” it when I bring that subject up. Either that, or my adopt a rat penis plan.

<Bigger>
Thats correct.

But seriously, where are all the so-called experts aroud here? I know their are some medical experts that know more about the anatomy than I do. Do you think the ischiocavernosus muscles are also pulled out along with the corpora? Or do you think the corpora pull away from the muscles? Or does the growth happen anterior (outside of) the region where the muscles encircle the corpora?

The only people I seem to see posting on anatomy are westla and bib. Whats up with that?

Tube,

>What ARE you certain of?<

Death and taxes.

>Cool. Who was in charge of the original PE forums? Where did they go?<

Well, TH to an extent, but there were mods and an Admin. I do not know if Sciman was the original admin, but he was there for a long time. Also, wx was the admin for a while. As with everyone, they eventually got what they wanted, and rode off into the sunset.

>hmmmm. I’ll get on that. Unfortunately it will require a fair number of cadaver penises, and unfortunately people aroud here don’t “like” it when I bring that subject up. Either that, or my adopt a rat penis plan.<

You will get it, I am sure.

The former. One clue I can give, at least concerning me. I can feel my kegals much more forward than before PE. IOW, the flex feeling used to be very close to my anus. Now, it is still close in the beginning, but as I flex, it seems to move well forward, almost to the pubic bone. Yep, the former. Could be a little pulling away, but I doubt it.

We are geeks.

Bigger

Here is another theory.

The component fibers which form the trabeculæ are thicker proximally. I believe this is to help support the weight of the penis when erect. The base needs to be stronger because it supports more weight. But does this trend continue inside the body cavity? What about the trabeculae in the internal chambers?

Now, not only are the trabeculae apparently stronger towards the base, but I believe the internal pressure inside the tunica is also greater at the base. This is based on the mechanical principle of decreasing pressure due to friction in a tube. This larger pressure towards the base also helps support the weight of the penis.Now it stands to reason that as the penis grows in length, the proportional decrease in girth along the length of the penis will be greater (ie longer penises have more of a cone shape).

What does all this have to do with increasing base girth? Well, when the internal crura are elongated and pulled out from their interior positions, the trebeculae are not used to supporting this great hydrostatic pressure at the base of the penis, thus increasing the base girth. Furthermore the longer penis contributes to a greater coning of the exterior penis from frictional losses.

Thunder,
Its funny you shold bring up my car, since I was going to post about it today. Overnight the battery in my car died and now I can’t start it. I checked it with a voltmeter and its pretty much totally dead (1.5V). But I did not leave my lights on so I have no idea what caused the battery to drain. Maybe I will post this question in its own thread, maybe not. Anyhow, I don’t want to post on here what kind I have because of privacy. Lets just call it a banana mobile.

I believe it is both - thickening & distending of those structures. The hanging, over many hours, pulls some of it forward; and the constant weight stress thickens & strengthens the base/pubis area.

However, I can see no utility is wasting much time trying to determine a definitive answer. For me, jumpstarting my lagging gains is of much higher priority than is explaining the “tree roots” phenom.

Wad, consider it an academic exercise. But academic exercise sometimes lead to novel real world techniques. I believe understanding is important before working on gains.

Currently I am only doing light stretching and jelqing in the shower. I consider it merely a penile health routine. Once I understand my penile anatomy I’ll begin working on gains.

I have been meaning to post this for a while. A simple explanation for increases in girth from hanging. From Gray’s anatomy.

Traced from behind forward, each crus begins by a blunt-pointed process in front of the tuberosity of the ischium. Just before it meets its fellow it presents a slight enlargement, named by Kobelt the bulb of the corpus cavernosum penis. Beyond this point the crus undergoes a constriction and merges into the corpus cavernosum proper, which retains a uniform diameter to its anterior end. Each corpus cavernosum penis ends abruptly in a rounded extremity some distance from the point of the penis.

So what we have is the bulb of the CC being pulled outside the body. In other words the CC is naturally wider inside the body. Hence it seems reasonable that pulling them would lead to increased width.

Good info Tube, well done.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Postatem obscuri lateris nescitis.

I figured that since manual stretchers don’t get the same pronounced base thickening it was something else; I figured it was because the base of the penis acts as a fulcrum and absorbs most of the initial force and therefore widens more than the rest.

I believe this to be true because members who hang SO claim to gain girth along the whole shaft (because the whole penis is stressed evenly instead of having a mini-fulcrum at the base).

What doesn't kill you makes you longer.
