What Kind of Weights??

What Kind of Weights??

I’m thinking of trying hanging down the road. I can find all kinds of info on hangers but nothing really on what kinds of weights to use.
What are you guys using? Are we talking plates that are used on barbells or dumbbells? Or, are there more compact better weights? Apart from golf weights, and Monty’s PE weights are there any than can be used under clothing?

I’ve been using barbell plates, but they’re bulky and awkward. In searching for a better alternative, I picked up a couple of sledgehammers, 10lb. and 4lb. (They do come heavier but this is enough for me.) They’re very compact and not too expensive. I plan to cut off the (wooden) handles and screw a hook into the remaining wood embedded in the heads.

For under-clothing wear, I use PEWeights. For a quick solution around the house, I throw on a 2.5lb ankle weight. It attaches quickly, easily and comfortably (it’s padded) with a velcro strap and is great for maintaining some stretch after a work-out.

I use plates. I stack them on a 6” X 1/2” eyebolt, with a wide washer and a bolt underneath to hold the stack on. I have 10, 5 and 2.5 pound plates, and right now I’m hanging with 12.5 lbs. The plates I’m using are a little less than an inch thick, so I could be using a shorter eyebolt.

‘Long time ago someone posted pictures of a plate holder they made. I can’t find it. Maybe someone else will remember…

I use regular weights plates, I have a selection from 1 lb - 50 lbs. The most I have lifted with my hanger is 75 lbs. The hanger is my own design, and the plate holder is from a metal closet rod cut down to 12”. One end I drilled a 1/4” hole through the rod, in which a 1/4” bolt go through. Then I took a rope about 20” long and made a loop on both ends, then slide the rope down through the metal closet rod to where the hole is, then slide the bolt through the hole and loop of the rope. Then I have a washer that slide down the rod to the bolt end.

The weights have about a 1” dia. hole and fit good on the rod, the other end of the rope gets attached to a clip that is on the hanger.
