Wrap ID?

I had some blood drawn at the doctor’s office this morning. The phlebotomist put a wrapped bandage on instead of a band-aid. I moment ago I took the wrap off.

It’s blue, about an inch and a half wide, fairly thick, with a rough textured surface. Stretchy, and self-adhesive without sticking to fingers or anything else.

The Voices said, “That stuff would be great for the Bib hanger!”

Have any of you been using this stuff or something similar? It beats the hell out of wrapping T-shirt material and holding it with Scotch tape while putting the hanger on.

The piece I have looks to be about the right length to use as a wrap, but I’d buy more if I knew what to ask for.

I used to use the self adhesive ace bandage when experimenting with stuff the first couple weeks of my PE career. Similar stuff to what you are talking about, but much thicker. I always thought, man, this stuff would work so much better if it were thinner. I bet that bandage stuff you describe would work great!

Beebs is correctly identifying it as Ace Bandage. I believe that Bigger mentioned it in his first article about hanging with the homemade Bib hanger 25 years ago.

Often ACE bandage is brown but traditionally blue bandage is used in the food industry because very little food is blue.

[reaches for calipers] It’s .045” thick uncompressed, .015” compressed. I can squeeze it down to .012”, but that’d be way tighter than you’d likely pull it for wrapping.

The stuff looks like thin blue terrycloth.

It’s probably just an off-brand ACE bandage equivalent made for the restaurant business and sold to the hospital/clinic for less than the brown one.

It’s the self-adhesive thing that’s the trick. I bought a self-adhesive Ace bandage a while back; it was tacky. The blue stuff just sticks to itself.

I recently heard that the food industry requires the use of blue so that customers can see that anyone touching the food has had a cut recently. Otherwise a chef could gash his hand open and cover it in a skin toned bandage, and the customer would be unaware. I know I heard this within the past week, but I have no idea where.

I know exactly the stuff youre talking about. I got it every tine I donated blood. Now I’m going to have to find it.
