If you got problems with digging pains, this style might not be the best suited for you.
By re-pumping in a dynamic way you press the rim for a lot of repetitions in your sets into your base.
In my eyes I would concentrate therefore more on steady vacuum and shorter sets.
20 Mins is way too long if you got problems. I would do 10 min sets and use the breaks for massaging the base for some pain release.

Seems that you were over training at this point and missed out on proper conditioning.
Imo not a good idea to push the intensity instead of acknowledging your “bad” Pi’s and doing lower intensity work.
The problem with pumping is that minor injuries or over training can backfire weeks later.
In my eyes your base is over worked at this point.

I can recommend not to concentrate on length in the beginning, but on expansion and volume. A strong pull induced by high vacuum is not necessarily needed for expansion.
