For anyone dabbling with breast pumps: you need to add a check valve to your tubing into the breast pump in order for it to maintain a vacuum. I’m using the Spectra S2 for ball pumping and it pulls way more vacuum than I would ever need. I actually have to include a control valve in the line to regulate/bleed the vacuum, otherwise it will easily reach 15+ in HG. Search amazon for aquarium check valve and aquarium control valve. Both are very cheap.
I picked up a “Nature’s Bond” breast pump a year or so ago. It was a lot smaller than the Spectra pump. For one reason or another I never got around to trying it. I found it today, blew the dust off, found a power adapter, and plugged it in.
Hmm.
First thing, it is LOUD. Annoyingly loud.
Second thing, it blows. As in, blows puffs of air out the vacuum port instead of sucking. I checked the power adapter (12v 1.5a) and negative was on the outer shell, as usual, so that’s not the problem.
I’ll have to open it up and see if a previous owner had tried converting it to blow instead of suck, the opposite of what I did with the aquarium pump. If it’s something mechanical it ought to be easy to spot.
