First post pumping question

Hello,

This is obviously my first post, and consequently I was unable to ask these questions in the pumping section, so I thought I would try to ask here instead. I should also mention that I read through some of the pumping posts here on the forum, but I didn’t find the info I was looking for yet. If I continue searching I will probably find it somewhere, but I figured I might as well ask and see.

I am interested in pumping because I have found sufficient anecdotal evidence to believe that it could help reverse erectile dysfunction caused by a jelqing injury (due to bad luck/being slightly overzealous). Said injury has persisted for a few years now.

1. Which are some reputable brands of manual pumps with a pressure gauge? Money is no object, as regaining erectile function and minimizing the risk of further injury are priceless to me.

2. What position should one pump in? Standing, lying on one’s back, etc.

I hope these questions aren’t too redundant.

First off: austfred, dtwarren, you’re needed.

Really any gauged hand pump and cylinder is going to be similar. I would go with a brake bleeder and buy the cylinder seperately as that allows you to pump with air or water and is very cheap. If you go that route you might need a hose disconnect male coupler like this one or this one to connect the brake bleeder to the cylinder. On that second link I couldn’t remember if they were 1/4" ID or 3/8" ID, but you could just get both as they are both around $1. I would get a seperate cylinder from Thickwall, in exactly the size you need.

As far as pumping kits go, they are all pretty similar. The Kaplan pump has been around forever, the SizeMatters one is a good Kaplan clone that is cheaper. The cheapest is probably made by LeLuv.

I know some people use electric pumps for ED/EQ improvement, but I have no experience with these.

As far as body position, I would do whatever is comfortable. I always sit.

Roots

I can vouch for the build quality of the LeLuv cylinders. I have two, and the valves and cylinders themselves have held up perfectly over 6 months of regular use. My pump is a Mityvac. It’s worked fine for me, but their reputation in online reviews is not exactly stellar. I think most pumpers here recommend this one from Harbor Freight.

For position, I don’t think it really matters as long as you’re comfortable. Stand, sit, walk around, whatever.

The brass brake bleeder from Harbor Freight is the one I have, they are the cheapest too. Sounds like we have about the same setup.

My advice on the question of pumping and ED is to first read this.

Vacuum Pumping when you have ED; the short version, according to Avocet8

Avocet8 got me pumping and it does help with ED. Then I started doing dynamic pumping - This Works (Dynamic Stretching)

I found this helped EQ even more.

I bought my first set up from Leluv ([ump and cylinder) and found it effective and reliable. The pump is a metal one and I gather similar to the Harbor Freight one. The only thing I changed was to get some silicone vacuum hose. The extra length and flexibility improved useability.

I have now moved on to the Mr Fantastic dynamic pumps The Mr. Fantastic Pumping

I found these are very good for EQ especially the water version though they are not cheap.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I feel much less in the dark starting out.

I’m going to think it over and decide on one of the options suggested. I’ve read that water pumping is more intense so it will probably be best to start out with air.

Water Pumping isn’t more intense, in fact it is safer at comparable pressures. Air pumping is easier to do though. But that is really its only advantage over water.

The main advantage of air is cost and simplicity. I agree with Roots . I got good results from air but my recent experience with water suggests better results at least as far as EQ is concerned.

Water it is then. It goes without saying that I’ve heard of the Bathmate, which looks easy to use. Would you all recommend a home setup such as brake bleeder, or Mr. Fantastic, over Bathmate?

If you have had an injury and are looking to recover, then you need a gauge for sure. Go with a home setup with a pump and gauge, and the brake bleeder mentioned comes with an overflow cup which you will need if you water pump. Its also your cheapest way to start.

I agree with sparky. You have little control with the bathmate and no gauge. The Mr Fantastic water pump is great. It gives you excellent control and is easy to use. It also allows you to do dynamic pumping. However it is not cheap. You would want to make sure water pumping is for you before investing in one.

Just over a week after posting that, and my Mityvac crapped out on me. I took it apart, inspected everything, cleaned it, lubed it, reassembled it, and nothing. It must be an issue with the manifold, which has no replaceable parts. So I bought the brass one from Harbor Freight.

About the Brake Bleeder by Harbor Freight, does it have a trigger vacuum release or quick way to release the pressure? I was reading through the info on the Thickwall website and it mentioned the importance of not only a pressure gauge, but a trigger vacuum release as well.

It does have a release valve that works quickly, so no worries there.

It’s been a little while, but I now have a brake bleeder pump, thickwall cylinder, and 1/4 inch coupler from freshwatersystems.

The only issue is connecting the pump to the cylinder. It seems there is no vacuum pressure being created when I attach the coupler to the end of the cylinder, but it works when I press my finger on the end of the coupler and leave the cylinder off.

Any ideas?
