I rigged up a pump by buying the actual pump from Harbor Freight, and then I had a discount coupon for Adam and Eve.com, and I bought a cylinder from them for something like $17. It’s a 2”, so for me is a little big, but it’s working out well. The hose that came with the Harbor Freight pump connects right on the cylinder without any alterations needed.
I did experiment with a gravel cleaner first, but the largest one I could find at my local pet store was too small. I still bought it to experiment with, and I’m glad I did. Even though it was too small, for $6 it was a good way to ease into pumping.
