Pump help

I ordered a regular brake pump because my LeLuv plastic one broke. I put the male end of the pump in the plastic tube just like the old one was hooked up. I didn’t use any of the attachments that were in the box. I got nothing as far as suction. I know there is no leak in the cylinder or the hose because I can suck on the hose and it will build pressure. Either I got a defective pump or I’m doing something wrong. Is anyone using this type of pump that could help?

Is the female connector screwed into the top of the cylinder firmly? Also try holding your finger over the end of the male fitting and see if you can pump up pressure.

When I hold my finger over hole it will not build pressure just goes to 10 then back to 0 each time I pump. I’m not sure what the knob is on the bottom but won’t build pressure if I push that in either.

That little knob is a pressure relief valve, so leave that alone. Is that gauge screwed in securely? Normally the face of that gauge is parallel to the length of the brass barrel. Your pic shows it at right angles to the brass barrel.

You can also try just exercising the pump a lot to see if you can get it to start sealing internally. There is a rubber diaphram that moves inside the brass barrel that is supposed to pump up and hold the pressure.

One more thing. When you do the pressure check holding your finger over the end of the male fitting, you have to use a lot of finger pressure or air will leak past your finger.

Sounds like the vacuum release valve is stuck open. Put a drop of machine oil in it and press it in and out for a few minutes and see if that does it. If it doesn’t send it back and get a replacement.

I tried tightening the gauge which did seem loose that didn’t work also tried to oil release valve and work the pump for a while still nothing. Ugh miss my pumping!

Sounds like a defective pump.

It’s actually blowing instead of sucking

You said when you did the pressure check by holding your finger over the end of the male connector, the pressure went up to 10 but then went right back down to 0. Please recheck this once more like I said in post #5 by using very strong finger pressure to seal the end of the male connector.

You might also check the entire system, but this time wet the O-ring on the male connector with your mouth before connecting it to the female connector. O-rings work best when they have a small amount of lube on them.

I thought it felt like it was blowing maybe not. There is a possible leak in the system too because I can’t get a good amount of suction with mouth either but nothing with the pump at all gauge won’t even move when it is connected to system. They are sending a new pump but need to figure out in the meantime if I have a leak. Is there a way to test?

Make a solution of soapy water and while you are sucking on the end of the hose that is connected to your cylinder, dab some soapy water on the connections and look for bubbles.

I got a new pump and a 2” cylinder as the 1.75 I seemed for be outgrowing. The new pump works just fine pressure holds fine when pump is not attached to tube so the only thing left it could be is the connector piece that goes from tubing to cylinder it looks like there is an O ring that might be bad. Is this something I need to get from LeLuv or is it available at Home Depot or Lowes?
