Hobby, you misunderstood me. I didn’t mean to say there was anything particularly bad about taking omega-6 fatty acids with omega-3 fatty acids, at the same time. I simply think that with the low intake of omega-3 fatty acids of most people and the high omega-6 fatty acid levels of the modern diet that taking any omega-6 fatty acids at all is a bad idea, because they have to be taken in balance. If the only time a person takes omega-3 fatty acids is with omega-6 fatty acids, they will never correct the imbalance. That’s all I was saying.
I’m sorry, I do have a tendency to be cryptic and not express myself clearly. I’m not trying to be evasive in any way, except for the Hibbeln thing. I’ve given you my own reasons for why I prefer ultra-refined fish oil and also given you links explaining the different manufacturing processes. I don’t think it’s being hyperdefensive to refuse discussing a friend’s personal conversations online when that friend has been openly insulted and our relationship has been openly insulted (he is not my guru—Billy Zane is my guru. :hearton: )
I am happy to discuss cheap fish oil vs. expensive fish oil as much as you like, but honestly I don’t really care about it as much as you do. I was just relating anecdotal evidence in an effort to be helpful. I personally have noticed a difference with going from the cheaper to the more expensive stuff and know of other people who have too, that’s all. I’m not sure why the change; I assume because of the different processing, which I spelled out here. I’ve said I don’t have efficacy studies. But for me personally and for other people who have switched, it works better and is easier on the digestion. Easy enough to refute me—men who do notice a positive change in libido from fish oil can try a bottle of the expensive stuff and see if they notice a change. If not, tell me to go jump in a lake, publicly. And frankly I wouldn’t mind finding out that I am wrong—my interest is in results and I don’t like recommending that women try an expensive brand because it makes me look bad. Maybe there is a cheap brand out there that works just as well; I just don’t know about it. If you look at the earlier version of my diet posted at newshe I don’t recommend a specific brand. I started doing that because women were complaining about digestive upset and it wasn’t working as well.
You yourself complain about digestive difficulties with taking fish oil, although only on a empty stomach, which is not a good thing to do.
You know, I was tired with the polyunsaturated thing. It was late. I am telling women about diet, and when it comes to actual food, polyunsaturated fats is a shorthand for saying omega-6 fats—corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil. One of the citations in my protocol is:
