Fish oil brands

Yeah, there seems to be widespread agreement that cod liver oil = bad.

According to what I’ve read, they hand pick a dozen studies, out of hundreds, and then put out a report just on those. Also, it’s not stated that at times people in some of those studies are very ill, that vitamin e may not can counter alone.

But concerning the e and fish oil connection, what I’m mainly wanting to bring up here is that since high dosages of fish oil can significantly lower the concentration of vitamin e in the blood, shouldn’t that be taken into consideration?

Summary of above:

1) The recent negative vitamin e report that made network news should perhaps be taken with salt. Afterall, the same two guys (I can find their names if I someone wishes) lashed out at fish oil years back by hand picking studies.

2)Fish oil lowers vitamin e concentration in the blood.

Just things to consider in connection with fish oil. Fish oil intake is healthy, but vitamin e supplementation should be considered when taking fish oil.

Vitamin E is a generic term. Cheap vitamin E capsules contain only or mostly synthetic alpha tocopherol. This page provides a possible explanation for why excessive alpha tocopherol may do more harm than good.

IMO, if you’re going to supplement E it’s worth paying more for something more complete.

Yes, this is something Life Extension Foundation states also, I believe, and I may be mistaken but I’m thinking they say this is one of the problems of some the studies. I was aware of it to some degree, but haven’t paid close attention to the difference as much as I should have, and had forgotten about it. I’m glad you’ve pointed it out to us because this does appear important.

Hobby, I don’t believe it! You posted the same link that I found two days ago. I was going to post it but I wanted to build up a few more links first to post something more substantial to read.

I posted it here before. It isn’t authoritive, but it is a nice summary of the likely problem. If you run across other good, relevant stuff please post it.

I think I got that link from a post on Lyle’s forum.

Hobby, no I meant the link to http://www.ocea nsalive.org/eat … il&sort=Company

With regards to vitamin, it’s always best to go for natural sources. One of the best natural sources for vitamin E is wheat germ oil.

Hmm, shiny skin. Hmm, dreamy eyes. Hmm, strong fingernails are hard like scales.

Zaneblue, has your swimming improved!

Ah, you rediscovered Para’s first link in this thread the same as I did. :)

I didn’t realize until he said so, but that table is a link on the page he gave.

Oh right. I didn’t realise that Para had posted the same site. I found it on google. Small world. Or should I say small internet?

Penismith, lol, or she’s turning into a mermaid! A randy one!

Zaneblue, I think you are turning into a fish!

This might be a good time to interject that there are some potential negative consequences in taking too much fish oil. Just because some is beneficial doesn’t mean a shitload is better.

How much is too much is debatable, and so is the validity of the purported effects from overdosing. In some people, high dosing causes elevations in LDL. There are also concerns about compromised immune response, reduction in insulin sensitivity, impaired blood clotting, and a few other things I can’t recall offhand. Oh, fish oil seems to be an oxidant in large quantities, thus the recommendation to take some extra vitamin E (an antioxidant) to offset this.

Hmm. Ingredients in my fish oil caps: fish oil concentrate, gelatin, glycerin, d-alpha tocopherol, water.

So, they contain the vitamin E component that the article I linked above says is possibly responsible for depleting other components of the vitamin E “complex” in the body. Perhaps fish oil itself has no effect on vitamin E but the alpha tocopherol as an additive does.

That might explain claims that fish oil pills cause reductions in vitamin E. I haven’t looked into it, just throwing out a thought. The amount of alpha tocopherol in these caps may be insignificant.

“True Vitamin E is a synergistic living complex, which includes:
1. 4 protective skins - alpha, beta, delta and gamma tocopherols
2. Coenzyme Q
3. Selenium
4. Unsaturated Fatty Acids
5. Several other factors”

Hobby, her study should determine what the minimum and maximum doses should be for a labido spike.

There are side effects to Viagra too. Still I think it’s worth studying. We will be examining dosing.
