Melatonin Boosts Testosterone?

Melatonin Boosts Testosterone?

Quote
… we confirmed the regulatory effects of endogenously occurring melatonin on Leydig cells as well as its beneficial effects on male reproductive performance. The results showed that the endogenously elevated melatonin level was correlated with decreased Leydig cell apoptosis, increased testosterone production, and improved quality of sperm

They were testing on genetically-engineered mice with low natural testosterone, and it increased their testosterone level and sperm count. Some earlier tests by other researchers showed the opposite.

But melatonin is cheap, and they have it on the shelf at Walmart and Dollar General if you want to experiment.

Might have to get some melatonin, think it may be a bit harder to get in UK unless I have jet lag.

Read up on melatonin before trying it. It’s generally prescribed as a sleep aid in the US, as well as an OTC (over the counter) supplement, but some people have odd psychological reactions to it. With your history you’d want to be aware of possible side effects.

Not trying to discourage you, just letting you know.

The NHS web site says it’s prescription-only in the UK. It’s apparently OTC in France and Spain; nyet in Germany and Holland.

I’ve used it as a sleep aid for many years, I’ve had no negative issues that I can attribute to it and can’t say whether it had any effect on my T levels.

I was at a very high dose until a few weeks ago and just decided to try and wean myself down to a lower level.

Was at 20mg/night and now down to 10mg/night.

Dreams through the night are much more active now.

It’s probably indirectly increased your T levels, since better sleep improves T.

I’ve tried the stuff many times, and it never helps with my sleep.

I cheat. ZZquill is also on the sleep menu.

I’ve had sleep issues for many years, this seems to be the best combination for me.
I’m hoping with age I can get past the spinning brain problems when I try to sleep and eventually get off of everything.

Thank you, I will read up and see if I’m a suitable candidate for melatonin before taking it.
