Questions for Uncircumcised Men

I am circumcised, my son (7 years) is not. I know next to nothing about foreskin or foreskin care. I believe that the foreskin should left alone until some age, and that any premature retraction of it can lead to issues. So, I have a few questions.

At what age should one retract the foreskin for cleaning?

Do you partially retract the foreskin when urinating? and if so, beginning at what age? (Currently, when he pees, he does not retract it and the stream spreads everywhere causing quite the mess).

Any other tips for someone in my situation?

I would greatly appreciate your honest answers. In addition to this forum, I will be discussing the matter (again) with his pediatrician for a complete understanding. However, he is cut as well and there is no better advice than first hand knowledge.

2 No, only while in the shower and I clean it with an towel on occasion when it feels sticky.

When you where you were a prepubescent child, and your penis was a little smaller than your foreskin, did pee get cought up in it and spray all over? or have you always had a straight stream?

Kudos to my wife as well, she was really against circumsision as well. I always wished I had the choice.

I keep it retracted all the time. Saw somewhere it helps de-sensitizing, I don´t think it worked though hehe.

But since I started keeping it retracted (while peeing especially) it stopped stinking ! So its the way to go.

At least you’re taking initiative. My dad never taught me that I needed to retract it, now my foreskin is the bane of my existence :P

The foreskin will naturally retract eventually. Forcing the retraction is not a good idea. He will eventually do it on his own, although it may not be into his teens.

I slowly, and painfully, peeled mine back over the course of a few years, just to be like everyone else. It was probably the stupidest thing to do as it would have separated by itself years later.

Honestly, I thought that I had ruined myself.

If he wants to wear it drawn back later in life, that’s his call. Peeling the skin back too early is really like shoving bamboo under your fingernails. Don’t worry too much about cleansing, children are quite clean and acidic, it’s in their teens that they have to form better habits.

I have tried peeing with the skin in place, and drawn back. Truthfully, it is more satisfying to pee with the skin foreward. When the skin is drawn back, I feel like there is still some pee stuck somewhere.

That is like unseperated toes you are talking about. If the foreskin is stuck to the glands or to tight the doctors usually do a circumcision with a year or two…

As early as possible. It should be retracted and washed every day.

I potty trained my son a several years back, BUT from a circumcised point of view. I think there is a whole chapter I left untold to my son about foreskin care and peeing accurrately. This isn’t a question of missing the toilet with the stream, rather the stream spreads out. Take a garden hose for example. water comes out in a stream, but if you partially cover the end with your thumb, the stream is more a spray and hard to aim.

Think back to when your kids were between 3-7 years old, was there anything you had to tell them about this issue?

Evidently this is a sensation I will never know.

A cut penis is like a point and shoot camera, there is not much to it. The more I’ve read and talked to my son’s doctor about foreskin, the more complicated it all seems, like the old style cameras with a multitude of different settings. I just want to make sure I give my son whatever information he NEEDS to know so he doesn’t mess up his unit, or the toilet. Did your father tell you anything specific when you were in the 3-7 year old range?

Please keep the info coming guys. I’m cut, but when my son is born in a few months, I’m going to leave him uncut. I need the same advice as Dangle.

It seems as if Hog 7.5 and Phantasm are saying pretty much the exact opposite. I read something on a site that pretty much said what Phantasm did. That’s the approach I was hoping to take, it seems easier.

I have never heard of the pee spraying problem Dangle describes with his son. Do all uncut guys have to deal with this?
