Whenever I do downward static stretches, the area below my stomach feels tense and awkward, is this normal? Also there are times when my balls (especially my left side) feels sore after doing manual stretches.

Pain is your body’s way of saying something is wrong. If you’re feeling pain you may be doing your stretches with too much force. Back off a bit.

Sounds like overstressing the ligs. Agree with jimbob- dial it down a bit.
