Clamping questions

Hi, with all the clamping talk going on lately I’ve become curious. I realize that I’m not far in enough to start clamping yet, but I wanted to go ahead and make my clamps anyway. I was looking at cable clamps, is Menard’s the best place to buy them? My most important question is, what is the best material to put inside a clamp? And where would be the best place to get said material.

Thank you in advance, and I did research the topic, and found some interesting stuff already. My reason for asking now is I wanted to see if there was any updated information or if anyone had found some better stuff to do it with. (So please, no links to the tutorials section on basic clamping).

Hey luka, thanks much for the link, hadn’t seen that place before. Anyone try out the turn key clamps? They look good but my only issue is what if they break while in the clamping position? Is there an emergency release of sorts? (Guess the idea of clamping makes me nervous, perhaps I should just stick with the cable clamps). Also is there any difference in price between the cable clamps from here and the ones from Menard’s?

Ha ha sorry but I need to disappoint you, I tried it an there is no “emergency release” :D but they are safe, don’t think some thing like that happens.
