Ok so we all know that a blue and cold head is bad, right?

So what about if the head goes blue (or near enough blue, you get the idea) BUT the glans is still “normal” temperature, IE still somewhat warm?

Obviously this is still “bad” in the sense that there is still a lack of circulation, but is it AS bad as a blue/cold head?

Blue means no oxygen.

No oxygen means death.

You’re talking about clamping, slack? If that is the case then a bit of discoloration is acceptable for a short period of time. If it is cold and/or numb at all then it’s time to quit. But like gprent said, lack of oxygen isn’t a good thing so don’t let it go too long.

I wondered about this last year when I was clamping a little. It would take a fair while before discolouration set in. Then when I tried my IR pad with the same clamping, it changed colour in just a minute or two. Obviously because I was using IR the temperature was no good as an indicator. I suspect that the IR increases cell metabolism, and therefore the rate of oxygen use, hence the rapid change of colour. That’s pure speculation on my part though.

Personally I’d go with either indicator. If only one is bad then still quit. I wouldn’t wait for both. Temperature could take some time to dissipate, whereas oxygen could be negligable in next to no time under certain circumstances.

I was talking about Clamping/ADS.

I wasnt meaning leaving for long periods of time (im not 100% insane. About 95% insane maybe, but not 100%)

As I said, I was asking with JUST discolourisation, not coolness/numbness.

So its cool then, technically I didnt go as mad as I thought I did when originally asking the question.

I understand it’s just speculation, but that has some interesting possible implications. :-k
