Infrared radiation does not have the same frequency as the ultraviolet radiation used for tanning.
So your soldier will not tan, just warm up.
As to risks:
- no known cancer risk (to me, to be very precise, so do not sue me!)
- generally heat is beneficial to tissue if applied with common sense. Helps expansion and relaxes it in general.
- you can get burned, yes, like you get burned when touching a hot surface. That’s exactly why the common sense factor comes in.
IMPORTANT:
If you plan to have kids in the near future you should protect your testicles from the heat, because sperm produced decay when heat is applied. This by the way is a simple birth control method, if I remember well in some tribes of the American Natives the men used to sit on a hot stone for a while if they did not want to make babies that very night. Here in Switzerland there was for a certain time a “testicles bathing group” which tried to gain evidence about the reliability of that method. And after 4 weeks of daily bathing the balls in 45 degrees Celsius (113Fahrenheit) for 45 minutes. The sperm were counted and they were infertile for 4-6 weeks after that treatment. So heat can make men infertile,
