Morning Wood

I agree. Nocturnal erections are usually associated with REM sleep during the night. It doesn’t have to happen in the morning right when you wake up. I usually don’t have a hard on when I wake up in the morning, but I am a light sleeper and usually find myself hard as a rock sometime during the night.

There is a test doctors use to determine if men with ED have an ability to get hard or not. You stick a ring of postage stamps around your dick before you go to bed. If the ring has been torn apart when you wake up in the morning, it means you got hard some time during the night.

You might be able to “kick-start” them again with supplements of L-arginine. Works on maybe half the guys who use it, no all.

My morning wood quit happening in my mid-50s. They were reliably happening until then. But at about that time I also got ED. I found that Viagra, taken more frequently than just for sex increased them. L-arginine caused them to occur about two weeks into supplementing with that. Now it’s a rare day I don’t wake with a boner and I am a good deal older than you.

But also, as mravg suggests above, much of this has to do with sleep patterns. Yours may have changed such that you have hard erections during deep, REM sleep but are now waking more slowly from REM than you used to so that the erection subsides before you wake.

If you’re waking to an alarm clock that may be the issue. You need to wake up during REM sleep, as this is when you’ll get morning wood. If you’re in another stage of sleep and get roused by an alarm, you won’t have it because of that reason. Usually the body wakes itself when it’s ready to rise, and you’ll usually find yourself with morning wood this way. This is the case for me, anyway. When I just let myself sleep until I’m entirely rejuvenated (i.e., the weekendS), I wake with morning wood.

Also, dehydration may play a role in the lack of wood. Hangovers/drinking dehydrates you. When you drink a lot, and have to pee really bad in the morning, you tend to be hard as well.

sonicjelqs sounds logical. Can you give examples of foods / supplements that will lower estrogen ?

In addition to everything already said, I’m in my 40s and stopped having morning wood a while back. I’ve been on the modified newbie routine for a couple of weeks now and morning wood is back. Especially if I stretch and tuck my penis between my legs (there is something I never thought I would say) before I doze off then it is almost a guarantee that I’ll wake up with morning wood. Also, I notice if I wake up about 30-60 minutes before I normally wake up, much better chance for morning wood.

Exercise regularly, avoid processed food, drink at least eight 12oz. glasses of water a day. Take 5000 mg of fish oil and 3 ZMA’s. If you smoke or drink alcohol/coffee limit or quit all together. I run or bicycle every day, lift free weights three days a week. This regiment works for me, I am in my mid fifties and do not have ED and have morning wood nearly every day.
