simple jelq question

I was told that jelqing overhand grip is best because its less hurtful. Is this said so I don’t go too high on my penis and hit the nerve right behind the head?

I find jelqing underhand is much easier and effective.

What are the PROS/CONS of over and under hand.

The nerve runs on top of the penis, with overhand grip (pinky out) you provide better cushioning for the nerves. Also with overhand grip you can grip further towards the base.

But you can do other grips for a change, there isn’t a rule - just a matter of preference.

I naturally stop about 0.25 inches before the head…. so I prefer the underhand. I am safe right?

You should be. However, if you are a beginner don’t go above 70% erection levels, don’t squeeze too hard, and watch carefully for even slight pain or numbness. If the latter happens stop. And try to experiment with different grips. I also started with underhand grip, but later found overhand grip more useful and more convenient after a couple sessions of practice. Besides with overhand grip you can kind of pull the penis down and this would aid in lengthening the ligs.

The thing is, I have a good 2.5 in fat pad, and I can really sink my hand deep. I’m also trying to lose weight. I think I’m going to have a thick top and that fatty area that will be revealed will be smaller? I will have to do base girth only exercises after weight loss right?

Yes, that sounds like a good plan — you are indeed likely to develop something of a “baseball bat” shape, but this should be correctable later through other exercises. Many guys have an easy time developing base girth through various means. The hardest place to gain girth, of course, is the glans.

I’d suggest that you stop your underhanded jelq stroke at least .5” from the head, rather than .25”. That’s cutting it too close, in my opinion.
