Converting Inches To Decimals

I was never good with math.

How do you guys convert your measurements to decimals?

Like, I know that six and a half inches converts to 6.5, but after that, I’m lost. What’s the formula?

Divide the top number by the bottom number. i.e. for 5/16, divide 5 by 16 which gives 0.3125.

Prickle, every other line on a ruler is equal to one eigth of an inch (0.125 inches). So for every other line past a given point, add 0.125.

E.G. - If you measure two ruler marks past 7.5, your measurement is 7.625.

Sorry, I read “every mark is 0.125”“, not “every other mark….”, so I thought your calculation was wrong. Just read it wrong, sorry.

I didn’t have a visual aid here (was going from a mental image), so I thought there might be only 8, so I looked up a printable ruler online just to make sure.

There are 2.54cm per inch.

So who’s right? Mick’s first reply…. is that correct?

You know, when I first glanced at the subject of this thread, I thought it said, “Converting Inches to Decibels” as in certain marks on the ruler can be converted into how loud your ladyfriend will moan. :D

It seems to me different rulers have different increments. Some 1/8 some 1/16 some 1/32 and so on.

If you look in the “sizes PE data site” accesssable at the bottom of every page and log in to record your size, there is a conversion chart there that I think goes by each 1/16 of an inch.

But Mick is right if you have a calculator just divide the top number by the bottom one.

I’m 100% sure that is correct as long as you’re reading it right. Say you measure 6 and 7/16 inches, this is equal to 6.4375”.
