Debate - Hanging vs. Manual Stretching

Summer doldrums. People are on vacation. Posting is low at T’s Place.
So, why not stir up a good ol’ fashioned debate. A showdown, if you will.

Not trying to ruffle anyone’s feathers, but I would like some feedback concerning
an old article I read today at PEF by Big Al.

Here it is -

“I've received a lot of emails asking me “what are the best exercises for length and/or girth?” Well, I'm going to give you my opinions based on several years of observation and also, based on the anatomy of the penis.”

LENGTH

In manual stretches, nothing beats the “Tension Stretch”. Why? The penis is anchored to the pubic bone by several ligaments.”

No shit, really?

“In order to stretch these ligaments, it's necessary to perform a stretch that taxes all of the ligaments involved. By “rotating” the stretched penis, you are stretching all of the ligaments.”

The above statement contradicts Bib’s “isolate and attack” method of stretching the ligs and tunica.

“Superior to hanging?” Manual stretching (especially the “Tension Stretch”) is superior to hanging for these reasons:

- It doesn't cut off circulation

- You can perform very intense stretches in short bursts- NOTE- You COULD do this with hanging by holding the weight and letting it hang, but (usually) the force that you can apply with your hands will be greater than any weight that you could comfortably hang.

- You can stretch at different angles more easily - NOTE- you can hang at different angles too, but again, the tension will be less than adequate.”

My questions and comments:

1) Can we agree that properly hanging will not cut off circulation? And it’s more likely to injure one’s penis with manual stretching?

2) The author believes that “short bursts” of manual stretching are more beneficial to penis elongation.
He feels the tension from “your hands will be greater than any weight that you could comfortably hang.”
How would you compare the effectiveness of eight 20 minute sets of 15lbs. @ BTC to 120 - 30 second stretches at all angles?***

3) The author states, “the tension will be less than adequate” with a hanger.
How do accurately measure tension with your hands?

Apples and Oranges? Yes, to a certain degree. I ask you to look past that and indulge me.
Dear brothers and sisters, I want to compare the overall “nutritional value” of apples to oranges. Which is better?

***I chose those particular time/repetition parameters because I personally believe it is very difficult to do anymore than that in one session. Hands get tired, hands slip, skin gets sore, and it gets tedious.
But if you guys can do more, please tell me.

I have never done any hanging, so I can’t compare the two. But I do agree with Big Al on most of his conclusions—based on, I am sure, a lot of personal experience. I am not going to address each of Al’s points.

But allow me to add my own slant on it. The beauty of manual stretching is that you CAN monitor the strength and the duration of the stretch. I think you are more in touch with your body with manual stretches and can vary them according to how your body reacts. You are also not stuck in one “mode”, so to speak. If I feel I need more stress on my ligs, for example, I can move from lazy asses to A stretches. And if I want to add even more stress, I can do this by just moving my wrists, thus increasing the A stretch considerably. Then I can add knee bends to both stretches, etc. etc.

Manual stretching, I believe, leads to more flexibility, gives you many more options and also gives your body an immediate sense if you’re overdoing it or not.

However, it “aint” a passive thing. And you have to give it your complete focus with no distractions, and it is much more time-consuming.

Good points Ramrod and Horsehung. I am doing both hanging and manual stretches, and found another

plus to manual stretching, you can “slip in” a few minutes of it in any restroom stall. Every little bit counts!

I think he means by “rotating” the stretched penis you are “rotating” the stretched penis.
Personally, I like to “rotate” my stretched penis for a few minutes and then get down to the business of “growing” my penis by hanging weight from it for extended periods of time.

What’s the “tension stretch” and how would I perform one? I searched the forums but couldn’t find anything. Are they as effective as their made out? More so then hanging?

The main advantage of hanging is that the exact tension (weight), is known and therefore you can progessively add more tension a little at a time as you adapt. With manuel stretches, the tension is not known and not consistant.

I have read that the best way to cause permanent, plastic elongation, is low tension over a long time rather than high tension for a short time. This would seem to lend itself to hanging.

Can we mimic hanging with manually stretches? For instance, three sets of “A” stretches at twenty minutes each, with a low to moderate tension?

Would be nice to hear from others that employ “manual stretching only” routines.

IMO, the fatigue attainable by hanging is in a league of its own.

I can’t. If I pull hard enough to do some good my grip gives out within a few minutes. Switching hands every so often helps, but I can’t imagine keeping that going for an hour.

Ok what is exactly the tension stretch I didnt see it in the video section..
Do you have a link on how to do them?

Stretching is (MORE) active, while Hanging is (MORE) passive in nature. You can multi-task to some degree when hanging.

Is it possible to sit down while hanging or must it be done standing? Just that I do quite a bit of my work at a computer.

Seems to me that manual stretching with more force would take less time where hanging takes more time with less force. Wouldn’t either have the same in results?

I do all of my hanging while sitting in front of the computer. I think its safe to say that the vast majority of hangers do as well.
As for ADS, the objective is to keep yourself extended for the sake of healing micro-tears in that state - or keeping them open between workouts. ADS is most effective when used in conjunction with a consistent routine.

Hanging can be done with a serious amount of force - as much as 30lbs of tension - and some guys have done more. That kind of tension for twenty minutes straight is all but impossible to replicate via manual stretching.

so Captn, you can get more “force” from handing? You are right in that I don’t think anyone can put 30lbs. of force on the woody for any length of time. I wonder how one might gauge the force of manual stretching?

So, which is better? I can see advantages on either side.

The only way to gauge tension by your hands is guessing. I suppose some guys can come pretty close
with their estimations.

But let’s say you apply 15lbs of pull with your hands in the Straight Down angle.
How long can you hold that? Probably 2 minutes. And when you are done it feels like a pretty good stretch.
Then you repeat it 10 more times.
By now, your hands are tired and a half-hour has gone by.
Or, you can attach 15 lbs to a hanger and do a continuous 20 minute set SD.**

Which is better? Which is more efficient? More effective?
