I’m asking the newer members to lead in the effort. If you don’t want to use the donate button, then PM Thunder and ask about other ways to send in funds.

We all know who that “somebody” is here. The fact is, the buck stops at his wallet, which as always been open to us and this is not a cheap site to maintain monthly. I may get into trouble for telling you this; no, I WILL get into trouble for telling you this, but a week or so ago it was calculated that after the February bills are paid, there would be US$ 14.00 left in the kitty aside from a fund that is kept in reserve for emergency maintenance. When that $14.00 is spent, guess who starts footing the bills again out of his private budget? That has happened countless times in the past. It should not.

Every dollar helps our Fearless Leader in the Sky to keep this place going at the honest and quality level that makes it so special. If it isn’t so special, why else would you and I keep coming back here?

(Avocet now waits for a lightening strike on his PM box from FLS, who is a very private and humble guy, occasional lightening strikes notwithstanding.)

Yeah, No kidding.

If Thunder wants to bring the donation issue to light every now and then by all means he should. But to have member after member push these donations is getting a little out of hand.

This place is free…all these donation pushes make it sound like if you don’t donate you don’t belong here. I say we uphold the principles of this wonderful place and let the issue arise when it does…and not force it down everybodys throats.

By all means, this is without a doubt the best place on the web. I have found a community and a practice that I love very much. I think everyone should donate, but the philosophy behind donations is “give what you can, when you can”.

It is indeed impossible to put a price on something that gives one so many benefits. But to everyone out there who hasn’t donated, you are just as welcome as anyone who has. IMO

No conspiracy. There are three new threads though, one of which (this one) I knew about, and the kitty is moving right along today.

I saw Cajun’s thread and responded only with what my gut told me to say at the time.

If there are three threads at the moment on the subject, that is because at least three people, independently, felt that this site is definitely worth donating to. I happen to agree with that sentiment.

But, not to be a dick or anything, where is your “forum donator” tag? I’m sure you’ve donated, but other mods have that tag and you don’t. How come?

You are being a dick, but all is forgiven.

You will never know whether I have donated here or to any cause.

I love seeing those tags. They mean that people have appreciated what happens for them.

Any donator here has the option of not having a tag. Frankly, the more tags the more impetus for others to donate, seems to me.

Your yahoo pay direct doesn’t work they shut it down on the yahoo side. So I bit the bullet and used the hated paypal and it wasn’t bad at all they seemed to have gotten better since my last attempt with them. I did the best I could I’m only working part time right now and start a new job on Monday so these are lean times but I can’t stand the fact of you using your own money to float this place. I mean shit you already put about 80 hours a week into this place. So I did what I could to fatten up the kitty. I always like to think I put a lot into this forum with time but time don’t pay the bills. I also really hate these threads looking for donations but it’s a necessary evil. We could let every Tom Dick and Harry try to sell something and get a commission on sales but thunder is trying to keep it pure.

Wow, that was pretty rude, not to mention hypocritical.

If you think more tags provides an impetus for others to donate, maybe the smart thing to do would be to show yours as well.

Like I said, I’m sure you have donated. I was merely wondering where your tag was. I was not aware it was an option not to show the tag.

Take a look at my avatar and my statements above. I love this place, I have donated, I think others should too.

Yeah Dino, that Yahoo setup started charging 5.00 per month to keep it active. So I let it lapse. In the two years we have had it you are the second person that has attempted to use it. We had one donation in the first year of having the Yahoo thing come through. I’ll remove that option.

I have a pretty good idea that these donation threads will not be around in the future.

What the fuck is the argument about donator tags for? Go pull on your dicks and forget about it.

So what’s wrong with an occasional push to help support a free site? Three threads and people start bitching about it? Good grief! We can have three threads about our web browser sucking or thirty active threads with hot naked babes but OMG not three donation threads.

Thunder yahoo stopped all together on 11-04 the screwed up part is they took all my credit card information and had me pick a password and than they said they no longer did it because the bank they used stopped.
