Its just, not all members are privy to the info that the mods are, so when the funds are low…you and the rest of the mods are the ones who know about that. And by all means if that is currently the case, forgive me for thinking that there were too many donation threads around, because I (just like everyone else who has posted in this thread) would hate to see this place slip away.

I hope no one minds a little input from a newbie on this subject. Over the past month, I have fallen head over heels in love with PE, and I have only one place to thank, Thunders Forums and members. It is a great place. Even from somebody new, questions are answered almost immediately. The answers are not only formed from experience but they are written with care, save the high numbers of ‘smart-Aleck’, which make this place even more addictive. When signing up, the best part (that I was really excited about) was that it is free. It was a demonstration that this is REAL and that you guys are not fooling around- you care about PE and it shows in your generosity by sharing it with the world. When I joined I was pleased that I was not hassled about paying any money and even when I did not offer, my questions were still answered just the same. These are the wonderful points of Thunders Forum that made me think about donating. I have never donated money to an Internet sight before. Then again, I have never been so whole-heartedly accepted into a family that is bent on the same addictive, but surprisingly constructive and healthy…’hobby’. I was kicking the thought of donating about the same time I saw the threads that suggested donating. In fact I decided to donate if (or shall I say WHEN) I make my first goal. But, when I saw the threads, I have to agree with, I think it was ‘doubles’, I felt a little uncomfortable. There is no problem with people not knowing whether or not they can donate. It is written right on the bottom of every page in the forum. All I can say is good places like this last. If Thuder is in trouble I know he has a lot of friends to count on, including me. When I make my first goal, Thunder will be cashing a check with my name on it!

I have run my own business for years and I will tell you nothing is really free. Even in my Catholic Church the priest will tell you (as the basket is being passed) that religion is free but running this church in not.

So to carry on the analogy a little further. The religion we all know as PE is free but running this place, Thunders Place is not.

My suggestion to Thunder would be to allow any member free admittance for the first three months after that, they pay to stay at a rate of 50 cents a month, payable a year in advance. So $6 for a year. Being as it is Lent, I would say that special dispensation will be given to those who can’t afford the $6, such as making them a moderator and put them on the graveyard shift.

The “free” period will allow them to get acclimated to the environment and decide if PE and this place are right for them.

I knew you all were waiting for my opinion on this, so there it is.

Well, obviously the previous hints haven’t caught on with some new members, hence the additional donation threads.

Guys, we’re talking about a Dollar here, or a Euro, (10,000) Yen, a Pound, a Dinar, or whatever. Once in a while, a small donation is all that is needed.

Privacy and security are non-issues, so don’t worry about it. All you little socialists out there, this is your moment to shine. Support your community for the greater (economic) good.

Either that, or Thunder will let me buy space for advertisement on the boards. How would you guys like to see my ugly mug on a pop-up when you surf the forum?

If it were up to me, I’d love to see this place go “corporate” — take money from big oil, big pharma, big penis, big whatever — and be a nice little money-maker for its shareholders.

Seriously. I have big ideas for this place. Conventions. DVDs. PE merchandise. Apparel (hats, t-shirts).

I think some members here are worried about their privacy. I mean once you make a donation your real name is directly linked to your nick, and PE isn’t mainstream yet. This info is available to few people and this is internet, without any guarantees. It’s not that I don’t trust Thunder, I am actually inclined to trust him, but the accounts can be hacked and, voila, somebody can have all this info.

I have a suggestion - to create a link for anonymous donations - no Thunder's nick, no login.

I am sure there are many members who would donate this way in appreciation of received knowledge and wouldn’t care about Forum Donator tag.

And if Thunder gets more money than he needs, well, I am sure he’ll figure out how to put them to a good, PE related, use.

An anonymous connection/donation, that can be done by signing into your Paypal account and donating directly, without using the donate button here on the forum. Then I would have no connection between a user’s account name and his nickname. It would drive me crazy though, because I do like to send a thank you note. There have been a few donations in the past that have been anonymous. If someone doesn’t want the forum donator tag, all they have to do is say so.

The forum software does not have any way to connect a person’s real name/Paypal account name and their forum user name now, that info is only available to me and is kept off of this server. It is done with a secure connection between my home machine and Paypal. Also the amount of information that I get from Paypal when someone donates is very limited. Their account name, which is usually an email address and occasionally a “ship to” address is it. A person can chose not to disclose a “ship to” address every time they use Paypal to make any transaction. No personal info other than that is available. No legal name, credit card number or anything like that.
