Is Soreness Necessary?

Is Soreness Necessary?

I’ve been reading a number or responses lately that say that soreness is an indicator of a good workout.

Is this widely accepted?

Soreness is a good indicator but not necessary. There are plenty of guys who never get soreness but make great gains.

Here is a list of good and bad indicators: Physiologic Indicators (PIs) to help growth!.

Soreness is a NI if it is persistent. It is a PI if it lasts only very shortly after a work-out. Take it as a sign that you have passed your ‘plateau’. Like red spots soreness can be taken as gains to come (due to the whole ruptured penile tissue thing), but as Bird2 stated - neither - is necessary for balanced and healthy growth.

Personally, I feel that soreness is a real sign of a good work out. Soreness happens when something is stretched. In weight lifting after a good a work out, if you get sore, it is because you have ripped muscle (weight lifter terms) and you are going foward and building. I believe this to be true with the ligs, tunica and the blood in the shaft. Again, I believe that soreness is a good indication of a good workout, but thats me.

Soreness is a good thing. Last year when I was PEing I was so sore, I had to take days off to recover from my soreness. In that time I gained 0.5” in EL. This year I have been PEing for the last month and I havent been sore, plus I havent gained any length. So in my experience soreness is a good thing.
