My thoughts on some of the latest happenings

Hindsight is 20/20. That we all know. If we could just move forward now, that would be the best solution. Try and avert any future misunderstandings that we have and work in a positive way. I consider honored to work with both boards and really enjoy the people I interact with each day. I met many friends here and at PE Forums. Even people I am less aquanited with I learn new things and am exposed to various viewpoints I might not have ever seen before.

For what its worth. I still consider DLD a friend. I have to admit this whole shitstorm was started by his overreaction to what someone fed him from our moderators forum. Many of our moderators were rightly incensed by the fact that a mole existed in our ranks. I do think that the best action was to let DLD’s friend peteysuncle show himself to be the complete douchebag asshole that he is. Unfortunately in the process DLD’s reputation got tarnished. considering that DLD touched the whole thing off to start with I guess he got what he asked for, even though I’m sad about it. I was complaining about the shitty state of the PEforums for months before this whole drama played out. I hardly go there anymore because all I see when I hit the view new threads link is polls that someone has responded to without comment. I really feel that if Big Al wants his forum to survive he has to take a more pro active role or appoint an admin who really pays attention to what is going on there.

It’s a vicious circle of sorts. Some mods leave, the forum starts to slack a bit, then more mods leave, etc.

Many of the mods and almost all of the admins that used to participate there are all but gone now. There are still a few good ones left, though :)

For What it Is Worth - I am very grateful to both sites for the insight and excellent “history” (re: experience) upon which I can draw for my benefit (yes - I am vain) and - hopefuly - [in the near future] the pleasure of my wife when I start to grow.

Each site has its particular “charm” and style. That is what makes this PE experience work for all of us. Big Al & Thunder - even DLD - have brought PE out of the shabby world of iffy pay sites, and into the light of day (so to speak) so that more people can benefit, and less $$$ is rat-holed into shit sites with big promises and little benefit.

Thanks to all of you who are making this a reality for those of us struggling to “grow” - and may your successes be our successes.

Its a shame when personality clashes happen and misunderstandings between people.Its a human thing.

Politics start to get in the road for positive outcomes.It happens in the highest government circles down to the local school, parent and citizens groups.

I’m not trying to stifle your opinions. We were not arguing here, we were trying to straighten some things out and attempting to make things better at PE Forums. A lot of the vets (myself included) would like to see PE Forums thriving like it did in the past.

I apologize for shooting off my mouth, I could have picked a better way of saying this I guess. You guys do have to realize that if it wasn’t for PE Forums, this place would not be here. The comments suggesting that we drop this and get back to PEing are the ones that are out of place in this thread. This thread isn’t stopping anybody from PEing, just trying to save another forum and give you guys another option.

Again, I apologize for mouthing off.

In my opinion both places are good. I come here to see what the members have in discussion and then to PEforum to see what they have.

I always find a selective difference in the post replies in both forums unless someone decided to copy a thread in the other forum; but then there was different responses to read on the same topic.

I have created threads here that got no pull in PEforum and had my questions answered. Same applies in reverse.

Who cares which forum is better? Not me. I’m happy with the luxury of a free standing community that discusses what I’m interested in. Advertisements only bother me when they are an embedded sig file in every post or pop-ups, hate those.

I can understand that even though it’s a free forum you still have to present it as though people are your customers. If you steer people wrong with scams (false advertisements) on your forum then chances are people are going to get steamed and either not actively participate (which makes a forum healthy) or will do away with you and look elsewhere…

If I was to compare the two forums I’d say that Thunders is more organized and innovative. But that doesn’t distract me from swinging between the two. I started at the PEforums after the endless search of the ever disappearing ezboard.

But none-the-less this is a forum and people do use forums to advertise. There are some slick marketers out there that know how to fit in and will take the time to do so because in the end the payoff is great. It’s all about The ease of the internet, all it takes is a mouse click to find your market.

Everyone’s been pretty helpful even if it wasn’t targeted at me. There’s a lot of threads that were created that answered my questions before i got a chance to post.

The thing is, PEforum gets more hits than Thunders … but Thunders creates more unique visitors with less traffic.

Not to be blowing the Thunder’s Place horn here aarzakK, but the statement above is ass backwards. Scroll down to the bottom of the main page on each forum, it will tell you how many people are on the forum at any given time. Quite a difference in the numbers, has been for the last year or so. I would like to think that the quality of this place has a little to do with those numbers and even give myself a little pat on the back for doing what I set out to do.

I agree with what you say about the schemers and scammers. Some of them are very good at what they do. I think we have one here on the forum tonight.

I must say I really do enjoy both forums. I technically started over here around the post Christmas holiday 2001. I followed over and found PE Forums a few days later. I always felt that both had some different feels to them. Which I did enjoy these little quirks.

I first got shanghaied as a mod over at PE Forums earlier this year. I did feel weird at first but got used to it. For me PE Forums was a smaller “club or bar” where I could hang out and discuss cool topics. I felt that this place was like a much bigger venue that didn’t feel as persoanl, but exposed me to more ideas and people. I soon got the mod knod here too a few months back and try and do whatever I can to help.

I never knew that there was a Troll problem that caused these boards to start distancing themselves. Now I know. I just thought the admins took different views on a lot of things and that this caused it.

I have contacted Big Al and added a few suggestions and will keep in contact to help that board out. I do have an insane school schedule due to my own chosing and stupidity, and have spurts of mega posting followed by lurking for several weeks. It seemed like PE Forums started to go downhill a bit during one of my stints asleep at the wheel with my personal concerns. I think people seeing this led to the decline of participation there. So I accept some of the blame myself.

I understand the concept of a free PE Board and appreciate both. Pulling teeth is sometimes easier than getting donations from people. Nothing is for free really. Some contribution is needed. If that is through money, time, or just being a good PE Citizen and starting no real shit and helping your fellow brother out than so be it. PE Forum pays the bills with ads. I don’t blame Al at all for this choice. He kept providing a network of information by advertiser’s dollars.

I think we should just let everything go and move forward. Seperate boards but willing to help each other out as best as possible. I know I am willing to do whatever it takes to help people out for this goal. Many others will follow, but it will take hard work and dedication from those in the beginning. The choice of leading the way, watching & waiting, or obstructing is up to all of us.

I would like to say thank you to Big Al and all the crew at PE Forums and Thunder and his lot here on this board. It has been a pleasure to serve with each one of you guys and gals. I have made some life long friendships here and on the other board. I wish everyone the best in what they want from these two boards.

I see that now Thunder. Damn these traffic statistics tools are starting to cheapen. I guess free isn’t good for everything.

So aside my error, or the bad recommendation from a top marketer to measure traffic … you get the drift from my post.

With that aside, point is, I’m not complaining either way. I’ve learned a great deal from both forums.
