Penis Size: The True Average

I came across this article on average penis size.

Doctors in the U.K. have reviewed over 60 years of scientific research concerned with the size of men’s penises, and concluded that the belief that men of different races have differently-sized penis is pure urban myth. The various studies, which measured tens of thousands of penises found that the average erect penis is between 5.5 to 6.2 inches in length 4.7 to 5.1 inches in girth, with no variation among different ethic groups. However, they did manage to create a new urban myth. According to the research, homosexual men have slightly larger penises on average than straight men.

Good post, baywatch

Always interesting to add to the discussion.

I had heard that there was a statistical difference between gay and straight men. Interesting for it to have scientific back-up.

I’d love to read the original BJU article, but their site requires a subscription. I just want the one article.

I may check out a magazine store here in New York - that’s the great thing about being in the city. Just about everything is available

Yeah, I may take a look at it also. I hope it goes into much more detail than that article.

“A survey taking in 50,000 heterosexual men and women found that while 85 percent of the women were satisfied with their partner’s penile size, only 55 percent of the men were satisfied.”

Ok, the vast majority of women are not size queens. Does “satisfied” mean bigger isn’t better?

“Factors that make a male attractive to a woman were numerous, but penile size was not the most important factor for women. Several studies indicated that around 90 percent of women prefer a wide penis to a long one.”

Ok, the vast majority of women are not size queens. Thick is ‘preferred’ over long.

“They noted that there was little evidence of racial differences influencing size, although one Korean study recorded smaller than average-sized penises.”

“Little evidence”, in that there is little data to look at? What does it mean?

Should we raise our hands and call “BINGO!” after reading the article? I looked around the web and the assumptions are amazing.

Does anyone know where to find detailed procedures used in the Ansells/Lifestyles study? I’m wondering exactly how they took the length measurements (I.e., topside, non-bone pressed?) and if it was explicitly stated that girth was measured mid-shaft?

From what I have read they measured at the thickest point! I would like to know how they measured length though.

Well, in Para’s original post, he states it was NBPEL and mid-shaft. However, I’m wondering where he got that info. Is there a technical document describing methodology, quality control, etc.? How did they even determine if a guy was “ready” to measure - I wonder if some guys were less that full-mast when measured.

Ansell’s own web site has an overview, but doesn’t describe the measuring procedure. It wouldn’t make sense for a condom company to worry about "bone pressing" if the goal is to find the ideal fitting condom. However, even when measuring nbp, a quarter of an inch is easy to gain with just a little pressing, if one isn’t careful to control for that.

Depends on the study.

Some studies injected erection inducing stuff; that pretty much makes all but the most damaged penis diamond hard.

Other studies, I believe have had people self-stimulate.

I think Penthouse, or VIVID VIDEO or some place like that should do a study and have a few of their stars on hand to help out. To avoid any pandering charges they could use chemical injection, but just train one of their people to ‘supervise’.

I bet they’d get a lot of volunteers.

From what I have realized personally, about certain females in my prior, is their understanding of a guy not being hung-like. It was refreshing to talk seriously about my body, and have that female not make me feel ashamed or embarrassed.

Of course for my own sake, I will continue to PE and keep current, but there are females out there that will be pleasured and pleased with a 6 inch and below penis. The trauma of being self perceived as ”small” will continue, but at least it won’t be controlling, and the opportunity to overcome is a potential. After you, me, whomever has found that special female, and she is simply content and happy with who you are: outer and inner, life will seem more rewarding and less stressful.

Trust me, she is out there for us males who resides within this situation. I found a few and once I am healthier, I look forward in dating and living happy. Hope this helps gentlemen.

That is why BP is important, if measuring 1000’s of men then the measurment takers might take different pressures. Should really be some sort of spring loaded device- like used in body fat calipers. Both BP & NBP are important, as is the weight. Obesity is on the increase worldwide so NBP size should be getting shorter too. Instead of another study 50 years on, they can just say the average weight is 30lb more so the average NBPEL has reduced by x-inches.

Might be many reasons for this. A guy with a very small unit might not be sexually active at all, might be a closet homosexual, or not even realised it at all due to lack of sexual experience. Some could well be sticking with women (subconciously or not) rather than get into a homosexual scene where they are one of the smallest. Maybe some bisexual guy could comment, would they prefer to be below average size in front of a woman, or a man. I have heard guys comment about not doing a threesome for fear of being smaller than the other guy. -Maybe the people measuring were male doctors in which case a gay guy might not want to show a small cock, while a straight guy wouldnt care as much (but if it was a female doctor this could switch in both cases)- the female nurses being the reason the other college survey was a waste of time.

Also I do not agree with the “look at nudist beaches/locker room/amatuer porn” for the average size, small guys will just not go to the beach/shower at home after the gym or cover up/not make porn, and big guys actively flaunt it.

As I said before the Italian soldier is the best in my mind since it is probably obligatory. But there is a flaw in it, I expect soldiers might have higher testesterone levels than average, lower body weight than average, and I heard the survey omitted people with “flaws”. That is like omitting dwarves from average height surveys, omitting obese or anorexic people inweight surveys. these people exist and are part of the population out there, so should be included.-the surveys could mention these factors.

The "average size" is usually over-estimated. Small guys don't take part in surveys and big guys jump at the chance.

Girl claims she had a huge ex? Stick a spider in the bathroom or a mouse in the kitchen and when she comes out screaming ask her how big the spider/mouse was...

I wonder if this is the secret to curing obesity in America? Publish a study saying that overweight men suffer from “Shrinking Phallus Syndrome”: gym memberships would double overnight, and McDonald’s would lose millions. Doctor’s telling us to lose weight hasn’t changed a thing, but if we could get it on E! or ESPN we might have a shot of making a difference.

Although not entirely on topic I found another interesting article that has penis size content called the Ideal Human. In the article there is a section on male genital size.

Here is a direct quote:

Genital size is generally not as much of a worry for cosmetic reasons as secondary sex characteristics are. (Contrary to popular belief, while women prefer their partners not to have smaller penises, most prefer average or only slightly large penises.)

Very interesting article baywatch. It says in there that penis enlargement doesn’t work HEHE. Don’t tell them.

Does not seem to me a good statement.

It is similar to say that you are right if your height is 5’10” or above and that you have some problem if you are under 5’9”.

I do PE but I am convinced that sex is for normal persons, men and women, not for supermen and top models.
