Stuff Veterans Should Already Know
Hi guys, TG again. Looking back, I wrote a piece made out of Advice I wish someone had given me when I first started. but what about the guys at this for 3+ years? Who have seen gains but have stalled out? This one is dedicated to the guys who "already know everything" and still ought to learn a little more.
Veterans and Complex Theory
1. It does not bring your expertise into question to continue to study a complex theory, particularly the one you prefer and use for your PE sessions.
This is a fact. Continuing to learn is the same route you took to gain to begin with. Making the assessment you have learned all there is to know is basically admitting when you’ve stalled your gains that you are not going to get any further. Especially if you’re talking about your favorite method, whatever it is. Be it hanging, pumping, manuals or some other combination of things. Once you’ve learned all you need to know, you’ve doomed your gain pattern to stop.
2. Even if you have written or contributed greatly to the theory you use, it doesn’t make you the only authority on it.
Everyone wants to gain. Everyone is trying to learn. Inevitably, someone will know something you do not. Even about your pet theory. They will innovate and try to create more ways to make the thing you tried to pioneer more efficient. Let them help. Do not disregard the efforts of others. This is one of the main perks of the community. That many minds are focused on one goal and that we can all help each other achieve it. Use this to continue to learn and gain.
3. Times change. Acknowledge and embrace this.
If you’ve been at PE for 5 years or more using the same techniques and devices…then you’ve probably seen new theories come about. New devices come to market. (I betray my own tenure in PE when I talk about the days the Bathmate was a new thing before the Hydromax systems even existed and there were only 2 sizes. *chuckles*) If you’re reading this and smirking or scoffing at "Newbies and their fancy gadgets and theories!" then this entire work is for you. Because…evolution is simply a person changing with the times to continue to be productive in their end goal.
Dust off your spectacles, sir. Get with the times. Do not miss gains being closed-minded.
Do not be afraid to launch entirely new lines of inquiry. To research things you’ve never even heard of. A new thing learned in a long PE career could be years of productive use and gains yet unseen. Let Newbies show you new things; that is one thing they excel at. Even if it’s about something you already have an opinion on.
Open your mind. It’s how you got into PE and to where you are now. Remember that.
