The Captn's Wench: PE Device

gripper alternative

While in Big Lots the other day, I just happened to notice they had some children’s flip-flops on sale for $1.50. I had just finished reading most of this thread and was thinking about alternative grippers, especially ones that I could use without a wrap.

Anyways, when I saw the soles on the flip-flops, I was intrigued by the possibility that they could be used as a gripper. The soles were fairly thin, firm but compressable, and had an interesting grip pattern on the bottoms. Plus, they were very cheap. One could get several grippers out of a pair.

Just an idea…

CaptnHook's Stretching Guide

Whatever happened with the Wench’s stretching guide that CaptnHook mentioned he was going to post?

xaxxat-
Flip Flops! A very clever idea. Provided you choose the most firm of the bunch I think you might have struck Gripper gold.
Try it out and let it be known what if anything comes of it. Excellent idea.

Whatever happened with the Wench's stretching guide that CaptnHook mentioned he was going to post?

I have that completed tutorial lying around on one of my hard drives. It is chock full of novel stretching exercises that a Wench user could employ without weights (including some funny illustrations). Why I sidelined it is that there came a time not too long ago that a “numbness hysteria” was making its way through the PE boards and I became afraid that the potential for guys to injure themselves was even more likely using the Wench manually than with the more stable tension of measurable weight.

In short, the amount of stretching power these exercises makes possible simply began to look more like a negative than anything else and I didn’t want the headaches.
I’ve never resolved how best to approach the idea of posting that article.

Thanks, Captn. I can see the need for caution. I can just see myself hooking the wench up to a winch and cranking away…

There’s nothing wrong with cranking away - manually with the Wench, that is - especially before beginning your routine for the day. Personally, I like to put the Wench on and do a 5 minute manual routine that covers all of the angles before I start my first hanging set. I sincerely believe this encourages fatigue and have even tested it both ways, with and without: No doubt about it, stretching with a device before hanging is beneficial.

Just so there is no confusion, this manual Wench article we’re talking about is very different than the standard grasp, pull, and stretch that can be used to great effect before a hanging routine - or just for the sake of manual stretching with the Wench. I’m not saying the Wench can’t be used as a manual stretcher - it can, and it works much better than the bare hand. But that article was a totally different animal.

I made a Wench the other day. Great device, thanks, Capt! I was trying it on last night, and before I could attach any weight, Mrs RBM grabbed it & lead me to the other room. Talk about love handles! ;)

Hey now…. “Hobby’s Bladder Wench”.
It’s a hell of an idea Hobby. It brings to mind those inflatable “arm floaties” that little kids wear in the water. With a lot of trial and error this would truly be the “Holy Grail” hanger.

Well, I may have found the “Holy Grail”…

How about an infant-sized blood pressure cuff?

I also wonder if the make one in preemie size?

Evidently, the infant-sized cuffs comes in 5 sizes!!!

Check out the neonatal cuffs:

There was a good thread about that a while back - I think Pasi1 was playing with it. I don’t remember what happened to his “air hanger” - haven’t heard much from Pasi lately. He was posting in this very thread a while back, but it is so long I’m not even going to try and find it.
I think Hobby also did a little more thinking about “air hangers” somewhere in some thread - maybe as it relates to an air inflatable Uli thing?

You should check into it further - you never know what you might come up with.

It dawned on me the other day when I was getting a blood pressure check. I’m going to order on those things and give it a try. Thanks for pointing me towards the other threads.

A quick question, i manage to put the stickyback to stickyback. I noticed that it produce a sticky layer gel in the middle, just like a sandwich fillings. I am concern that it might be toxic to my skin due to long exposure. I using the heavy duty stickon tape instead of the industrial strength. Please advice.

My best guess is that as the glue dries out and skins over any toxicity would be reduced to a harmless level. Also, how this minuscule strip of glue would come into contact with your skin if you are wrapping is something to consider.
I’m not sure that the glue is at all toxic, but I have used the Wench pretty consistently for nearly a year and everything looks and feels just fine.

If you are extremely concerned you might want to check the fine print and/or send an email to the manufacturer asking for any info related to exposure risks.

Making one today Captn. I’ll keep you posted on the results:)

Does anyone make this device and sell it online? I am techinically illiterate and cant seem to find all the required ingredients. Thanks.
