To our members in the South

I don’t think bullets come into play here. It is the comparison of being hit by a freight train or a semitruck and it was a large semi.

Friends in southern Indiana say that they got some strong winds and rain from this fiesty little wench. She just keeps on truckin’…

Our thoughts and prayers with all those affected! :D

One need only leave the surface of the planet to realize we are all one people.

80% of New Orleans is underwater and apparently still filling. The talking heads on TV don’t say what, if anything, is being done to plug the levees.

The Army Corps of Engineers that is working the problem and repairs might start this afternoon. They want to make sure whatever they put in place offers a permanent solution that won’t re-break after people start coming back home.

They are talking about 3,000 pound sandbags dropped from helicopters. At one point they had considered cargo containers filled with sand.

The New Orleans situation is top story now, but most of the damage is to the east. The I-10 bridge eastbound out of New Orleans is history. The relief organization doesn’t quite seem to be up to par, neither does the news coverage. Damage is probably going to be larger than Andrew.

I think the problem is that everything is wiped out from communication, to transportation to infrastructure to food and shelter and water to electricity, not to mention gas leaks and insects and snakes gone wild. In some places, it’s back to the bare beach, Robinson Caruso style, and that extends from New Orleans to Mobile and now inland with flooding and tornadoes.

In an earlier post, I said they got missed by the freight train, but I take that back now. I think the freight train made a direct hit, after the bomb went off.

Exactly.

I saw some pics of the damage, my god, a war zone doesn’t look that bad!

My prayers are with all there, in New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Hattiesburg. And everywhere inbetween. On another board I’m on, they posted pics of the damage in Hattiesburg, and some of the gulf coast. It was bad, very bad.

I’m so thankful that our members are safe, we have a moderator alumni that I haven’t heard from yet, but then his power is out.

Our son in Ohio, said they are getting rain and wind as well.

A quote from New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, about the rescue crews travelling through the city in boats:

“We’re not even dealing with dead bodies,” Nagin said. “They’re just pushing them on the side.”

Sounds to me like we haven’t even gotten started with the body count yet.

I saw a report that there was a miscommuncation with whoever was incharge of the helicopters that were supposed to drop the sandbags and they were working on rescue instead. They have given up on fixing the levee and the pumps in that area have failed. The entire "East Bank" area will be under 12 feet of water by morning.

Retired.

God help them all it was 100 degrees there today could you imagine what it must be like to be trapped in an attic with no drinkable water. I also heard that the water is mixed with raw sewage and oil and other chemicals.

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

This is awesome and horrifying to watch. Go to Home and click on Mississippi Gulf Coast damage viewed from the helicopter.
