How sore from hanging?

How sore from hanging?

How sore should be considered reasonable after a hanging session? And should that be the case after EACH session for maximum growth? I’m a bit leery of stressing ligaments too much, and not sure as to the safety level to avoid injury…

And am I correct in assuming SOME level of ligament soreness/discomfort is needed if actual stretching IS taking place?

I was going to post just such a question. Hopefully those that have gains from hanging will let us know what to “look for”. Is it a soreness in the ligaments? as the base? does is become more sore the next morning like the “burn” from doing situps?

Hanging BTC off the edge of a chair gives me quite a bit of soreness at the base - probably more skin soreness than ligs though as its get real taut.

Very difficult question to answer absolutely because everybody’s pain threashhold is different - what some may consider a mild ache, others will be rolling round the floor in agony (that’s an exageration, but you get what I mean) But all said and done, how you feel afterwards is missing the point. Often it’s only a dull ache or a little soreness at the base and a “worked-out” feeling in the CC and tunica. What you’re aiming for is not a level of discomfort afterwards but fatigue during your hanging. In a good session you should feel that you’re getting a good work out and come to a stage where you feel that you really can’t, or don’t want to, hang anymore of that particular weight. You then drop down and continue at a lower weight and repeat as necessary until you finish your sets. Injury through hanging is rare. Provided you start at low weights, learn how to use your hanger properly (squeeze the blood out of the glans before attatching the hanger - warm ups etc) you shouldn’t have any problems. I’ve been hanging intensively for 4 months now - excellent gains and no injuries ( I tell a lie - I dropped the weights on my toe one night :chuckle: ) I’ve seen far, far more injuries from jelqing - hanging injuries are uncommon.

Hope this helps.

HMMMmm - I have more problems with discomfort at the glans area - sorta masks any pain elsewhere - I realize this means I need a better lashup with my hanging device - will tackle THAT first, then concentrate on the “fatigue” aspect of hanging…

Related question - which is likely to be more effective 30 minutes with a relatively heavy weight - or an hour with something lighter? Any agreement among the more successful hangers?

Yes, you will get noticeable discomfort in the glans if you have too much blood in there to start with. It gets trapped and builds up uncomfortable preasure when weight is applied. The way I attatch my hanger (after wrapping) is to attach the hanger loosely, grasp the glans, stretch out the penis, gently squeeze out the blood from the glans and tighten the hanger. You may also need to tighten again after you have applied the weight.

Lighter and longer or heavier and shorter is really a moot point. The object of the exersize is to create fatigue and that can be achieved with either light or heavy weights. Heavier weights are more time effective - you will need to hang a for a much longer period of time with lighter weights to achieve the same degree of fatigue. My personal preference is to hang as light as possible, but it must be heavy enough to get a good strong stretch within my 20 minute set. I’ve achieved good success with this method and believe it will increase my options further down the track. No two men are identical so you will need to experiment a little to find your optimum weight and routine.
