Broke my pump again!

I have a plastic-bodied Mityvac pump with the built-in gauge and have found that it isn’t the most robust piece of equipment in my PE arsenal. I’ve already broken the handle, cobbled it back together with a bunch of miscellaneous hardware I found in the garage, used it for awhile and then broke the plunger. Not an easy fix either!

Has anyone else had the same problem with these things?

I’m breaking the handles all the time. This last time I beefed up the handle (as soon as I got it) with some strips of plastic and super glue. Seems to be holding up better that if you let them break then try to fix them. Good luck.

I have a plastic hand pump. You guys must be squeezing pretty hard to break the handle.

The spring broke in mine. Its easy to fix, but the hard part is trying to find the right size spring to replace it.

Maybe the spring in your pumps is too big and provides too much resistance that is breaking your handles.

I’ve gone through several handles and 2 plungers and cracked where the gauge screws in. I’m now using a metal pump from Harbor Freight (harborfreight.com item# 92474-1BCA) that cost $25 and like it a lot better. I don’t think I’ll be able to break the handle or plunger on this one. It also sucks out more air per stroke than my Mityvac did.

I broke three MityVAC plastic pumps in my lifetime. I finally went to the metal pump from Harbor Freight and have been very happy since.

$25 for a metal pump, thats awesome. I just looked it up and it is marked down to $20 .
Those plastic pumps go for $100 at a typical porn shop.
I was able to find a plastic hand pump for $50 on the internet and thought I had struck gold. Thanks for the tip.
