Hi going for8at,
I’ve just built myself a pump and it works really well. It cost next to nothing to make too. This is what I used:
I’m in the UK by the way so no “Home depot” etc..
I bought a 0.5l bottle of German mineral water (Seltzers) that was in a plastic bottle but it had a really thick base. (There must be other similar ones about). I cut around the base but on the bottom of the bottle not the side retaining some of the thick plastic base. I filed it smooth. I bought some 0.25 inch bore clear plastic tube (from home depot)! Cut about 6 inches of tube. With a sharp blade I sliced along the length and placed it around the filed edge of the base of the bottle to make a seal. Don’t worry about the join, get it as good as you can, you’re skin will seal up the gap.
I then got a large Phillip’s wood screw about 12g. Cut off the threaded part and then drill a 3mm hole down the middle. Using the star of the Phillip’s as a centre. Drill a suitable size hole in the bottle cap and push the screw through from the inside. It needs to be air tight. Cut about 3 inches of clear tube and push it onto the smooth part of the screw that’s poking out of the cap.
Now go into your back garden.. Oops I mean back yard take out the inner tube from you’re old bicycle. It needs to be a road type tube not a mountain bike tube. Cut off the valve as close to the rubber tube as possible. Unscrew the valve so it’s fully open and push it into the other end of the clear tube valve end first. Now cut another 24 inches of tube and use the valve as a joiner. Screw the cap onto the bottle. It’s looking good isn’t it?
Now oil up your shaft. Insert into the bottle and suck away! Good eh? And all for less than a pound.. I mean dollar!
Let me know what you think. I’ll do some pic’s if needed tomorrow.
