You actually have it completely backwards. If the gauge reads 5” Hg you actually decrease the pressure down to 7.5” Hg and you are further yet decreasing the pressure down to 10” Hg.
If you equate this to pumping, You are safest to use as much pressure as possible to avoid spots, donuts and injuries. In other words: never use more vacuum than is required to achieve a full erection or you will very likely do some damage. I also do not recommend pumping a full erection, if you are getting those.
As far as the actual amounts reading on a gauge, it’s hard to know for certain. The surface area that the vacuum is acting on seems to make a difference to me, anyway. I find it needed to increase it to more than 7.5” Hg in order to reach my full hardness. I have even had more vacuum than that between12.5” and close to 15” Hg in short cycles. The trouble is at these levels is I have no fat and the end tube presses into me very hard and bruises me around my base and I have to keep stopping to pull my balls back from being sucked through and into the cylinder.
