Selecting Your Cylinder Size

I have 5.9” girth at the base, often 6” or slightly over and 5.5-5.75 MEG, 7 BPEL. I am stating a range of stats with the bigger dimensions representing my latest newbie gains, not sure if they are going to stay although I don’t intend on slowing down any time soon..

I want to pump for length, so it looks like a 2.0” X 9” cylinder would be my best bet? Also was wondering if the premium lubricants are worth it from the Thickwall.co.uk website, and if their starter kit cylinders are of the same quality as those sold separately?

Thanks.

You don’t need premium lubricants. The starter kit cylinders are the same as those sold separately, but as I say below, you might find it better to buy the cylinder from them (and a connector) and buy the higher quality pump and hose elsewhere. A 2 x 9 would be fine. There’s no problem having a bit of extra cylinder length, so you could go for a 10". :)

From another post I made recently:
My personal choice is http://thickwall.co.uk/ They are very well made. If you buy the pump separately you save quite a bit of money, and if you get one like this it’s a good quality metal pump http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-Vacu…51634748&sr=8-2 . Just remember to buy a pump connector fitting to connect the hose to the cylinder when you order your cylinder. It’s the 4th item down on this page: http://thickwall.co.uk/connectors.htm

My only other recommendation if you go with the above setup is to ditch the hose that comes with the pump. It stinks of oil and you cannot get rid of the smell - makes your house smell like a motor mechanics workshop. The best stuff to buy is silicone vacuum hose like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Metre-S…=item4cfd90cc47 It is much more flexible than vinyl hose and doesn’t stink. You want 5mm internal diameter. I have nice red hose! :)

Great, thanks very much firegoat. Can’t believe the price difference, wow, and for a better pump than the starter kit. I saw your other post and was wondering which connector it was, wasn’t sure and thus contemplated the starter kit. Think I’ll go with the 10” cylinder then.

It’s the one that goes in the end of the hose and attaches into the connector on the cylinder - (so it’s the ‘male’ connector). Cylinders come supplied with a connector already attached so you only need buy the one that goes into the hose if you buy a pump from elsewhere.

Most high quality cylinders use the same connectors, so if you ever buy cylinders from other manufacturers, you should be able to use the same pump and hose on all of them.

I have question.. I just received by cylinder today and tried it on. My cylinder is 2” X 12”, I have no extra room as far as girth. Should I have purchase a larger cylinder base on the girth? Maybe 3’

Have you read the first post in this thread? You do not state your girth, or what you are trying to achieve (length or girth) so it’s impossible to help suggest a cylinder size for you.

A 2” cylinder will do for up to 6” of girth, and if you have no more girth room, it will still be fine if you are working for length. I doubt anyone needs a 3” cylinder unless they are pumping balls as well. Go read the first post. :)

I’d like to just follow up on my Canadian experience of going this route for a quality pump setup.

So I ordered the 10 x 2 cylinder from Thickwall cylinders, and since the Sealey Pump would not ship from Amazon.co.uk to Canada I bought a Power Fist pump from Princess Auto right here in my town for $57 tax included CDN. This pump was not pre-oiled and had no scent so I am able ro use the vinyl tubing that comes with it. There was a $35 duty charge for the cylinder too and the USD to CDN was charged at .93 CDN for 1 US dollar (based on Paypal).not a very favorable exchange rate. Of course I would have payed Duty on whatever I ordered from Thickwall, but one thing that annoyed me besides the exchange rate was Canadian customs valued my package at $175 CDN, where it was only around $96.

The brake down is thus; Est. $96 CDN for Pump and Connector + $57 for Pump + $35 duty = $188 CDN total.

Price for this is around $20 less than with Thickwall ‘Quality Pump with Gauge’ and $100 less than buying the cylinder with ‘Metal Pump and Gauge’ from Thickwall. The setup I went with also includes a cylinder that you cannot get through Thickwalls Starter Kit and a Pump that I believe is capable of water pumping. The pump is very easy to use one handed as well. Here’s the link to the pump;

I didn’t get quite as good a savings as American shoppers (your Pumps are cheaper) nor British (no Duty charges) but it was still cheaper than even going with the plastic pump.

Thanks for the update Stave! I seem to get lumbered with extortionate duty every time I order from the USA or Canada too. :) Glad the final price was not too bad.

I’m thinking about buying a pump and have been reading through the threads on “best pumps” and what not. I’m trying to find something affordable that isn’t going to be a waste of the money I do spend. My BPEL is close to 7” and my base girth is 6.75”. My goal is to buy something that will allow me to gain mostly length. From what I’ve read so far, I should buy a cylinder that is around 10-11” long and somewhere around 2.25” and 2.5” diameter. According to Gprent’s thread, 2.25” diameter would help me increase length. I’m worried though that if I go with the smaller diameter I’ll just have to spend twice as much money in a month or two to get the next size up. (starting with the 2.5” diameter is $3 more now versus spending a lot more to get a new tube in the future.) If anyone has any thoughts or advice, please inbox me.

My thread on the downsides of big girth: Big Girth - The Downside

I’m confused over LAPD’s elliptical cylinder sizing.

I’ve been doing stretches, jelqes and kegles for 6-8 months now and am pleased with the results. I haven’t plateaued yet, but I would like to add pumping and while continuing the manual routine. I’m 5.0” EG and pretty much uniform at base and along the shaft. I’ve read that this would put me into a 1.75” round tube, but since my dick has an elliptical cross-section (about 25% wider than tall), an elliptical would seem perfect for me. My problem is that LAPD’s sizing chart seems off to me:

Our Size … Short Side … … Longer Side
1 1/2” … … 1 1/2” - 1 5/8” … 1 7/8” - 1 15/16”
1 3/4” … … 1 3/4” - 1 7/8” … . 2 1/8” - 2 1/4”

What they call the 1.5” tube appears to be a 1.75” round “flattened out” slightly. Doing the math on the elliptical circumference gives 5.5” +/- which is the same as a 1.75” round. Ditto their “1.75” elliptical seems to be a 2.0” round “flattened” slightly with a 6.3” +/- circumference. So I’m confused which one to get.

I like my dick shape, and plan on taking my time with this routine and want to avoid donuting, etc. I’ve got no problem buying a first tube that I “pack quickly” in 3-6-12 months, since if I enjoy the pumping, I plan on buying the next larger tube to do two stage pumping. Since gaining 1/2” of girth circumference in the tube sounds way more reasonable than 1.3” I’m leaning towards their “1 1/2” tube. Even though it seems to makes sense, their sizing numbers are throwing me for a loop.

Vets thoughts or experiences with elliptical tubes would be greatly appreciated. (I searched for a similar thread and the only ones I found sounded like LAPD changed their size numbers over the years)

I don’t have any experience with those elliptical tubes, but I think you would be just as comfortable in a 1.75” round tube. As long as you are not touching the sides, your cock doesn’t know what shape tube it is in and that 1.75” round should give you plenty of room to expand.

The primary goal of PE should be to make your penis as healthy as possible in both form and function. If you do that, increased size will follow.

Your understanding about the round tube that is flattened is entirely correct. The sentence right before the chart on the website says “The Oval is measured using the inside diameter.” By “measured” they mean how it is listed in their “Width” drop down box for ordering. If you want a 1.75” round tube equivalent, their 1.5” elliptical would be the one you want. I have the 1.75” elliptical and like it a lot. Since I am not shaved, the flange gives me more room to grease up and get a better seal and the shape looks/feels good to me - although this comes at a hefty premium.

I don’t know if it matters to you, but your 1.5” elliptical would only give you 1/2” expansion before you’re packing the tube. In my relatively limited experience with pumping, I am able to pack the tube after a while going from 5.5” MEG to a post pump 6.25”, which would suggest you might want to have a second larger tube for staging. From a straight cost standpoint (especially if the flange isn’t important to you), you would be far better off just buying a brake bleeder pump from Harbor Freight ($26.99), two cylinders 1.75” ($25.99) and 2” ($26.99) from LeLuv on eBay and a quick disconnect coupling from McMaster-Carr ($1.36). With tax and shipping, you’d be spending ~50% of the LA Pump price with the benefit of the extra tube.

That is what I thinking to begin with, a 1.75” round tube based on my 5.0” MEG. Then I made the “mistake” of reading more threads and maybe I’ve gotten too attached to the idea of elliptical cylinders. Where I keep getting hung-up is when I eye-ball the width of my cock, it’s not much less than 1.75” (admittedly, this is very error prone) leading me to believe that I’d be “side-packing” the round cylinder (that under vacuum the sides would touch first) pretty quickly while there is still lot’s of space on the top and bottom. And a 2” round would just plain be too big for a long time.

The threads I read were guys who had both round and elliptical tubes and really preferred the ellipticals. They had the experience I described above where with a round tube, the hit the sides quickly and then could only feel the vacuum “pull” on the top and underside, whereas with the elliptical, it was equal pull all around and as the started packing the tube at the base of the shaft, going up, that they touched equally all the way around.

Maybe I’m overthinking it and maybe it’ll be a $90 mistake on the tube. I’m hoping that if I get the right size elliptical, I’ll be really happy with it from the get-go and eventually get a second, larger one for two stage pumping.

“The Oval is measured using the inside diameter”

Ok, I get it now. When they say that they are referring to the SMALLER inside diameter since their 1 1/2” is nominally 1 1/2” x 1 15/16”. Gotcha.

I’m real interested in your experience with the 1.75” elliptical. To me, that size makes a lot of sense with your 5.5” MEG since it gives you 0.75” expansion to pack the tube. That seems like ideal sizing to me, but I’m a total pumping newbie. I see from your stats that you started at 4.75 MEG, then achieved 5” MEG and are now 5.5 MEG. (Congrats, by the way) At what point did you get your 1.75” elliptical? For example, did you get it when you were 5” MEG like I am now?

I think the 0.5” expansion is a little less than ideal, but I think it is still in the ok range. I’m afraid that with the 1.75” oval tube, I’d end up with more edema and do-nut issues to get the 1.25-1.3” inch girth expansion necessary to pack that tube. I plan on slowly working up the time and the in-Hg of vacuum to a max of 4, maybe 5, tops. I’m a lot more interested in “blood inside the dick” expansion than lymph fluid in the skin expansion. Assuming I like it, which I think I will, once I pack the tube, I plan on buying a second bigger tube for staging.

Oh, also, I don’t plan on shaving my way back to puberty :) , so I think a flange is a good idea. Thanks a lot JD!

All of my gains were from manual exercises so I only started pumping when I reached 5.5” MEG. I only started pumping because I stopped having time to do the manual exercises and I could find time here and there to pump while I work on a computer. I figure it’s better than not doing any PE at all. If you have the time, I would recommend sticking to manual exercises until you totally plateau.
