OK, my comment about wasp stings may have seemed flippant, but it was made after some thought. I cannot perceive any benefit from sugar water. I thought about it from an inverse point of view. As some here know, I play the bagpipes. We use sheepskin bags as the air reservoir. The inside of the sheepskin is ‘dressed’ with, these days, a proprietary substance such as ‘Airtight’, which serves the dual purpose of making the bag airtight, and helping to draw moisture from the breath from the inside of the bag to the outside. ‘Airtight’ is primarily composed of glycerin and anti-fungal agents. In the ‘old days’ (before my time), raw honey was used. But however I try to work it, I cannot make an argument for using sugar water in the pump.
I have a sneaky feeling that somebody tried it, believed it made a difference, posted it, others tried it, and because they respected the original poster, got a placebo effect. Either that or the person who originally posted it did so just to see how many folk would try it. Hence my wasp-sting comment! :)
