My cable clamp just broke while it was still on. The plastic in front of the lever (where you press down to release the mechanism) snapped, and this meant pressing down didn’t have any effect. I was able to jam a pair of tweezers under the part that catches the “teeth” and lift it upwards enough to undo the clamp. If this had failed, I don’t think I would have been able to undo the clamp. Thankfully, I knew this was a possible escape plan as I had tried this before just in case.
Please keep an eye on the condition of your cable clamp. I continued to use a cable clamp which I knew had partially snapped. I hadn’t appreciated that this would impact the mechanism at all, but it was foolish to keep using something that would be so cheap to replace. It was foolish to take risks with something that I’m using on an irreplaceable body part.
If you’re going to use a cable clamp, please determine - ahead of time - a way of getting the clamp off if the mechanism suddenly fails. You do not want to be trying to figure this out in a panic.
Look after yourselves.
