Supplements for Treating an Injury

Note that I’m talking about treating, not curing. I did a ton of experimenting with various supplements in the first few years after my injury from jelqing, so I figured I’d share some of my experience and encourage other people to share as well. Hopefully we can help people cut down on the amount of time and money spent trying out a bunch of different things.

These are few that stood out as especially effective without causing me any deal breaking side effects. If you have a medical condition or take any medications, you may want to do some research, or start with a smaller amount.

Muira Puama- Very powerful aphrodisiac and helpful with erections. Increases erotic thoughts. If you have an injury that has completely shut down your libido I can’t promise that the aphrodisiac effects will be as strong, but it’s still worth a shot. Also a stimulant. If you really need a boost, this is the first herb I’d look at.

Cordyceps- Gave a nice boost to the libido and helped somewhat with erections, but not as strong as muira puama. Still better than a lot of other herbs that I tried, and not too intense of a stimulant if you are looking for something a little more gentle for longer term use.

Eleuthero- Also known as Siberian ginseng. Helped somewhat with libido and erections, in addition to increasing energy, mental clarity, physical endurance, etc. without being overly stimulating. Also very inexpensive. Overall I liked the feel of this herb better than cordyceps.

Guarana- A fairly powerful stimulant and energizer. Contains a high amount of caffeine. I found this herb to be a strong aphrodisiac and helpful with erections.

Schisandra- Very gentle and healthful berry suitable for long term use. A bit of an aphrodisiac. Good if you are looking for something mild and beneficial for overall health.

If anyone is dealing with a longer term injury, having side effects or problems with other things they’ve tried and looking for something to provide some benefit right now, give one or two of these a shot and feel free to share your experience. The more gentle herbs like eleuthero or schisandra may need to be taken for a little while for the results to kick in.

Anyone else that has any experience with a supplement, positive or negative, is also encouraged to share.

There were a few other good ones that I forgot to add that came back to mind since I posted this.

Damiana- Similar to muira puama in that it increases erotic feelings of arousal, except less intense and less of a stimulant. Good if you want something more relaxing than muira puama.

Suma- Also known as Brazilian ginseng. More of a primal aphrodisiac than an erotic aphrodisiac. More intense and a stronger aphrodisiac than eleuthero, but not as balanced with its overall mental and physical benefits. If eleuthero is a karate master, suma is a heavy weight champion.

Burdock- Even though this is fairly mild, I’m adding it because it would be a good aphrodisiac to combine with one of the stronger ones on the list if it wasn’t quite enough on it’s own.

Bee pollen- If you want to try bee pollen, be sure to get the naturally fermented powder, which has been fully processed and broken down by the bees in the hive to make it more digestible. A gentle, but strong energizer and aphrodisiac, which is also extremely healthy for long term use.

That about covers it. I originally tried a bunch of these supplements chasing the false hope that they’d cure my injury, and even though they didn’t, I still came away with an appreciation of how effective some of them are for what they are intended to do. Have fun!

How about just eating a good healthy diet, exercise, letting the injury rest and no stress.

None of this is intended to help an injury heal, but to help someone’s sexual performance with a long term injury that hasn’t healed. Or even a short term injury that is interfering with someone’s performance in their relationship, etc.

It sounds like your post is focused on trying to heal an injury, which is actually off topic for this thread, but definitely don’t hesitate to start your own thread about how to heal an injury. The key is getting results for people.

Have you tried any of these supplements?

So basically what you’re saying is to use some type of drug so you can have sex even though you’re inured. I thought being inured meant you coudn’t have sex? Have you looked at some of the side effects on the supplements you wrote? If not I would go look. Also you might consider that supplement, how they’re made, purity and a bunch of other things is way below the standard for a drug. Hey if they’re that injured take a Viagra. Of course if they’re really injured Viagra won’t work. Hmmmm?

Some of these supplements are good for you to take long term, and taking viagra long term isn’t the greatest thing either.

Even if any of these supplements were as risky as viagra for long term use, I remember a discussion people were having about negative side effects of ssri’s where you said that it was the patient’s responsibility to look into and ask the doctor questions, but when I mention a few supplements the same standard of personal responsibility on the part of the user doesn’t apply?

One supplement I didn’t recommend, which has been recommended frequently on another forum, is green tea, because of reports of liver damage, but you never criticize them and single me out for some reason.

Also, the point of the thread is to discuss different supplements for treating an injury, so if you have specific info regarding a supplement, just share it.

I know guarana might not be good for some people due to the high caffeine content, which I noted, but for the most part, these are generally considered safe, if not healthful, as far as supplements go.

But again you are encouraged to share specific info, since that was the point of thread.

Why is it that you take every thing here so personal? You always seem to think it’s you who are being attacked and not what you recommend which must be done I guess without question. It’s not a personal thing at all.

When a doctor perscibes a med it is his duty and responsibility to explain what it is and what are some of the main side effects. The patient at the same time before he swallows the med can and should do some reading on his own because that information is now available where years ago it was not.

Now when you mention to take this or that you don’t realize or care about the audience that you have here. Many come, read what someone says and then go do it or take it. When you write what you did you must assumes the doctors role and tell them some of the goods and bads because YOU’RE recommending it and they very often believe without question. Once you explain the good and the bad maybe some will do some more reading and ask question but if you put it out there then you have that responsibility to give them more information than it increases your libido. Teach them and don’t skimp on words.

Alright well I’m not sure where you got the idea that it must be done without question, and it’s those kinds of remarks that come off as a personal attack. I tried to share some info about the feel of some of these supplements so people who may discover them while looking for boost due to an injury can narrow down their choice.

At first you basically said that supplements shouldn’t be used period… which I guess must be done without question? If you had started off by encouraging me to get into more detail about potential dangers of each supplement, I wouldn’t have disagreed. I did advise that anyone taking medication or with a medical condition should do some research, and that guarana had a high caffeine content. I didn’t recommend anything that I knew was reported to cause serious issues in the normal dosage, like extended use of green tea supplements causing liver damage, and others, like fo-ti, which can also cause liver damage in some people.

Similar arguments to the one you’re making have also been made about the safety info on another forum. I’ll delve a little deeper and include any potential dangers for any of these particular supplements.

The best supplements I’ve found for treating injuries are Vitamin C (preferably a quality gel cap like Natures Way) and a minimum of 3000 mg’s per day, L-Glutamine and Turmeric. Topical applications of DMSO work too!

Are you talking about healing an injury back to normal? Or giving a performance/libido boost?

I had a bad experience with a topical application of DMSO and wouldn’t recommend it. There is a big thread on here where someone suggested topical DMSO and iodine for curing hard flaccid, and many pages later, there weren’t any recovery stories.

More in depth info about safety. Generally, with supplements that can cause lasting harm, it doesn’t take long to find reports of it happening to people through a Google search (type the name of the supplement, along with risk, dangers, or horror stories). If you are considering taking a supplement, read whatever information is available about safety, begin with a low dose, and only purchase from a well known, trusted company. (I’ll do one or a few supplements a couple of posts at a time as I get the information)-

Muira puama- Generally regarded as safe. Those with hypertension or cardiac disease should use with caution due to its stimulant properties. May effect hormones, so those with hormonal conditions or taking steroids should use with caution.

Cordyceps- The Chinese government approved cordyceps cs-4 for use in hospitals and recognizes it as a safe, natural drug. The main risks are that it may increase symptoms of auto immune diseases and slow blood clotting/increase the risk of bleeding during surgery, or in those with bleeding disorders.

Eleuthero- Deemed likely safe for adults when taken short term. Can effect blood pressure, among other things. More about the benefits and possible side effects of eleuthero- Eleuthero: 12 potential health benefits

Guarana- Guarana is the most risky one that I included on this list, but I still included it because I never found anything about serious or lasting issues being caused when used in normal amounts, and I think it’s a great supplement. In low doses it can still provide a nice brain boost and clean, lasting surge of energy. If you try tablets, break it in half or into thirds. A full one might be unpleasantly stimulating for normal day situations, but its great in lower amounts.

Guarana is possibly safe when taken by mouth in medicinal amounts for a short time. Guarana is possibly unsafe when taken by mouth in high dose for a long time. Doses greater than 250-300 mg daily have been linked to side effects. Side effects depend on the dose. GUARANA: Overview, Uses, Side Effects, Precautions, Interactions, Dosing and Reviews

Schisandra- Can cause stomach upset or skin rash or irritation in some people. Schisandra is classified as an adaptogen, meaning regarded as beneficial for the body overall without adverse effects.

Very good, well presented, informative and it will help guys.
