Rogaine

Ok guys I’m 25 damnit going a little grey (which I’m not as worried about as my thinning hair on the crown of my head)

I just started using rogaine 5% minoxidil about a month ago, I guess around the second week I started getting dandruff and flakes bad. Is this because my scalp is refollicating or something? I’m assuming this is natural. My hair is thinning but it’s not too bad yet. I guess it started a little over a year ago and I finally just started to do something about it.

I hear about propecia good and bad, but I am new to this thinning hair thing and will do anything I can do help the situation. Rogaine is only 20 bucks for a month supply at walmart I am just wondering if it is going to work, I know I’ve only used 1 bottle and my girl says she thinks it is already working, I CALL BS on that she is just trying to make me feel good. So anyway I hear the bad things about propecia like the erectile dysfunction things.but honestly I’m not that worried about that, I’ve been with my girl for almost 3 years and I’m sure it will be ok. What else are side effects for propecia? Should I try it or stick to my rogaine. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, jesus I’m only 25 thinning and greying and it’s the worst feeling ever. Please help- give me some tips on any other proven regrowth treatment please!

What about this doctor klein or whoever the doc is that everyone keeps talking about

verryherry,

First, you are taking the right steps by treating it before it gets worse. I started losing my hair at 20 and I didn’t start treating it until I was 22 and I wish I started earlier. However, I look at my hair now at 27 and I can only imagine how much worse it could be.

The dandruff is from the Rogaine, specifically the alcohol content, drying your scalp. If it gets worse, look into using Head and Shoulders dry scalp shampoo/conditioner or Vive For Men. And if it gets really bad, get Nizoral and use that twice a week along with a dandruff controlling shampoo. And if your scalp gets really itchy and flaky even after using these shampoos, then you need a different formula of minoxidil with less alcohol or another preventive measure such as azelaic acid.

I started out with 1.25mg generic Propecia and now after 6 years I’m at 2.5mg. I’ve noticed decreased libido, but no E.D. But there is always a risk so you will have to observe yourself if you start. But I highly recommend both Propecia and Minoxidil as it is the most proven treatment.

I don’t know anything about Dr. Klein’s reputation, but all Re-Mox is is a combination of Minoxidil and Retin-A which helps with flaking and itchiness. I use a minox formula that has azelaic acid which prevents bacteria growth in hair follicles and I’m very happy with that. I used to get really itchy and flaky with OTC Rogaine.

And my personal opinion: Look into using Tricomin products. Copper Peptide is very good for your follicles.

Has anyone tried this product? http://www.provillus.com/men/ . I’ve read some good things about it, but I’m not convinced anymore by what is written on the web. Once bitten twice shy so to speak. I would appreciate any information from anyone with experience using this.

It’s just 5% Minoxidil with 5% Azelaic Acid, pretty much what Rogaine is. This is nothing new, just some company putting on their own label and 1 more extra ingredient that does nothing. The internal is just a multi-vitamin. You’re better off taking Ultimate Man from Vitamin Shoppe and doubling up on Saw Palmetto if you want (hasn’t been proven to block DHT).

Don’t waste your money on this stuff. The best proven method is:
Minoxidil (Rogaine), 2 times a day. You can get solutions as strong as 15% now.
1mg Finasteride (Propecia) once a day
Good cleansing shampoo (Nizoral) twice a week
Copper peptide shampoo and conditioner (Tricomin)
Multivitamin
Eat healthy, exercise and don’t smoke.

Thanks for the input tmar. I am currently using Minoxidil 5% once a day, and Revivogen once a day. I also alternate between Revivogen shampoo and Nizoral and condition with Revivogen conditioner on the days when I use Nizoral. The Revivogen has been pretty good so far. I’ve only been using it for three months, but have seen some encouraging results. Bald crown has alot more hairs, though they are fine and not very dark yet. I am considering dropping the Minox because after a year and a half ,I don’t feel it is working for me. But I’m also afraid to quit using it for fear that I am wrong, and I have far more Minox dependant hair than I realize. I take saw palmetto, zinc, b complex, and a mens daily vitamin. I’ve just recently began the b-complex, but I hope it will help encourage new growth.

Or you can do what I did back in February and drop 4g’s on a hair transplant for the frontal region ;)

A lot of great info on this thread for anybody looking for hair advice:)

Hey, I’m 20 yrs old with thinning hair at the front and receding hairline. I’m not in any sort of extreme case, but it’s enough to notice and be concerned about. I’m very self conscious about my hairline and how my fringe has lost it’s fullness. I hate it and want my old thick hair back. I figure I have an advantage, being only 20 years old - I can bite this on the bum early.

Anyway, I wanted to see if any of you guys had heard of this stuff I’m using. My step-dad got me onto some stuff called “Hair Assist”, which is a spray. He also gave me Hair Assist shampoo and Conditioner, but I never really use it. Anyway, he recommended to use the Spray twice daily. I’ve been using it about once daily on average so far, but not really noticing results just yet (though I’ve only been using it for about a month). Have any of you guys used this before? Or does anybody have knowledge of it’s effectiveness.

When I apply it, I cake it on, and I think I might be overusing it. But it hasn’t had adverse effects so far. It just hasn’t really worked yet.

Just for reference of guys who ALREADY take propecia, or other DHT inhibitor.. It is said that after a month or two of usage of such product, that the DHT receptors become sensitized similar to puberty. If one than follows up immediately with a topical DHT in the right region, it should start puberty like growth. This was said by a doctor in a book, although I don’t think it would be proper to state it here, without actually purchasing the book.

Take it for what it’s worth. If you bitch about needing a source, Ill just delete the post instead. Take Care.

I know propecia is the other option but I am afraid of the hormonal changes and possible sexual side effects.
Getting old sucks.

I hear you, man. I’m 42 and I’m finally starting to see some thinning (once this becomes obvious, the experts say you’ve already lost 15-30% of your hair). :(

But I guess I’m lucky since I have buddies who went bald very young.

I’ve been researching products related to this subject as of late and I’ve come to this conclusion: It's all bullshit!

Those products, those ads are just as sleazy as the sleaziest penis enlargement pill ads. Even sites posing as run by doctors (one was an oncologist). And on that site the “before” and “after” pics were revealed (by 20/20 to have actually been attributed to surgical hair replacement! Even the cancer doctor did the same bullshit! (what, he wasn’t making enough money the honest way?).

I had links to movies (from YouTube, I believe) which were exposes on this shit - sorry, but I don’t have them anymore [I deleted them in disgust].

But that Avacor is all bullshit. The cost is staggering - for what basically amounts to repackaged monoxidil (a bottle of which costs about $15 - compared to the many hundreds for Avacor).

The infrared light brushes (which range from about $150 to $450+) have also been widely discredited.

My solution: I wear my hair very short now. And if the thinning gets worse, I’ll toss a $10 ballcap on my head.

Hello guys;

I’m member in two Spanish hair-loss forums for months. As I’ve been reading all this time, I’ll note which products they do recommend and which not:

1) Products which are scientifically proven and approved by the FDA for hair-loss: minoxidil, finasteride 1mg (you all knew that).

2) Products which really work but are not approved by the FDA for hair-loss: dutasteride (note: high risk of side effects).

3) Products which help against hair-loss on a mild way: ketoconazol 2%, spironolactone, flutamide (those only topical for men).

4) Herbal products which may work in some people: serenoa repens (saw palmetto), epilobium parviflorum, pygeum (all DHT blockers).

5) Topical solutions which work in some cases, and in other cases don’t help at all: Revivogen, Sar Plus (DHT inhibitor), Crinagen (zinc+B6+azelaic), Folligen (copper peptides), Thymuskin (thymus gland hormone), Fluridil (Eucapil), Adenogen (adenosin).

6) Scams: points 4 and 5 are denominated “scam” by an important average of people because they didn’t work at all… maybe you are that lucky guy - LOL. Also add Fabao 101 and other miracle products to this list.

7) Very promising drugs which are not yet available “on street” but which you might get somehow in the internet: 58841-RUM (a.k.a. RU), PSK (proskelia), TB4 (another thymus hormone product).

8) Very promising drugs which are not yet available and also you can’t get anywhere: TH101 (still in phase II of medical trial).

9) Products which may help keeping your scalp clean and free of sebum: jojoba oil, aloe vera.

I’ll make a special mention for RU-58841, which is the strongest topical anti-androgen which exists and probably the most promising drug against hair-loss.

I hope it was helpful.
