Hi. I’ll try and answer each question as best as I can.
1. What kind of success have you had?
-I started losing my hair over 10 years ago. Although my hair is nowhere near as thick as it was in my teens, with the right hairstyle you cannot tell I’m losing my hair. Without treatment I would likely be bald.
2. What part of your head is losing hair? Are you getting results on all parts?
-My thinning is diffuse in the front. I’ve got a decent hairline, but the hair in that area is becoming sparse. My crown/vertex is perfect.
3. Have you used the other products without the finesteride? Do you feel it is even worth trying for frontal receding hairline type balding?
-This is a tough question. Some people have claimed Finasteride didn’t help their hairline and even made it worse. This is why treating hairloss is such a mystery. Many times these treatments will cause an initial shedding of hair (which is, believe it or not, usually a good sign the treatment is working) and people freak out and dump the treatment too soon. Realistically, Finasteride is one of the best weapons we have in our hairloss arsenal. It attacks one of the primary causes of baldness i.e DHT. For what it’s worth, the BEST success stories I have been following over the years included what is commonly referred to as the BIG 3. Fin/Minox/Niz
4. Don’t you think the 15% Xandrox would give me a better chance at success compared to 5%?
-It depends. Have you used minox before? If not, then DO NOT jump to Xandrox 15. Who knows, you might be great responder to regular minox and will save yourself lots of money. You can also take comfort in the fact that if the minox begins to lose its kick somehwere down the line, you can always upgrade to Xandrox 15.
If you have used minox before and your results have been subpar, then you have 2 options. You can add Xandrox 15 OR you can try Minoxidil with Retin-A. Retin-A is a treatment often used with minox that increases the efficacy of minox and actually has regrowth properties of its own. Take warning though, Retin-A is an acid and if overused can really burn the scalp. If you decide to use it you must build up to it gradually over the course of a couple of months.
5. What specifically is in revivogen that is supposed to work?
-Revivogen’s claim to fame are its free form fatty acids. These are much different than the kind you eat (omega 3s etc.) and have been shown to inhibit 5AR (DHT) in vivo. Personally, I think Revivogen is overpriced, greasy, and smells bad. I tried it for over a year and noticed nothing special. Your money could be spent more wisely elsewhere.
6. Why only 3x per week with the nizoral?
-Because it falls under the category of ‘too much of a good thing.’ The stuff can be harsh and dry out the hair, plus believe it or not, hairloss is actually a side effect from overuse! This really isn’t cause for concern as the same is true for many medications (a little aspirin is good, alot can kill etc.)
Also, the active ingredient in Nizoral has the ability to stay active in the scalp for a couple of days after use, so 3-4 times max is what I recommend.
7. Have you had side effects with fenesteride?
-Not really. The most common I have notcied is that my semen is much more watery and that sometimes I’ll feel lethargic. The lethargy could be coincedental, but the watery semen is certain, but no cause for alarm. All in all, Finasteride has been around for awhile and is a well-tolerated drug. Test subjects have taken as much as 40 mgs at a time with no problem!
Good luck
