Good News and Bad News

Well I went to the doctor today and was given a couple of pieces of news. One good and one not so good.

The good news it my testosterone level is now at 802. I feel great other than being somewhat overweight.

The bad news is that my PSA test came out at 3.58 whereas my last few have been in the .79/.35/.73/.59 ranges. Although its still in the high normal range on the 0.0-4.0 scale. She seemed more concerened than she was letting on and prescribed 10 days of Cipro (I think in case its prostatitis), after that another PSA test, and if the results arent better than off to the urologist and probably a cut back on the Androgel. I have been on the TRT for just over a year now and I remember my doc telling me that the second year is really important because they have to watch for signs of prostate cancer. Apparently, the risk is elevated because of the TRT.

Just a little backround, about 4 weeks ago I got bit by a spider or scorpion or something while at a neighbors house walking thru some overgrown shrubs. I did know I got bit until about 4 hours later when we were out to dinner and I was very suddenly dizzy (like drunken dizzy) and I hadnt even had a drink left. We finished eating (we all shared food like we usually do with Chinese), my wife and friend helped me to the car. I proceeded to throw up six or seven times between the Chinese Restaurant and my home 6 miles away. My body was sweating profusely from every pore and I just dont sweat like that at all. Every piece of clothing I had on was soaking wet like I just got out of the shower, no lie. My skin was grey and I convulsed enough to blow out all the blood vessels in my eyes. There were no whites to my eyes for almost a week. I threw up three more times until about 3 a.m. on Sunday

I was tucked in bed by 8 p.m. on Sat nite, barely slept and every thing hurt. I woke up on Sunday, didnt throw up but didnt feel well all day, had a fever, sweats etc. On Monday the same thing and I missed the day from work, which NEVER happens to me. On Monday afternoon I go to the doctors office without an appointment. I have an excellent rapport with the staff there since I see them so often that I got in within 10 minutes. The doc thought it was a freak flu, gave me Cipro and said she would see me when I felt better. Well on Tuesday I felt no better so I went back and I was saying “everything hurts even my friggin right calf”, so the doc looks and says that I was bit by something so she switches the antibiotics to Keflex (10 days) and gives me a shot of additional antibiotics in the ass for good measure and tells me to come back everyday that week and the beginning of the week after. I went out and bought new boxer underwear so that the nurse and I could laugh about something. I now have Spiderman, Batman, Joe Boxer, Calvin Klien mesh, army fatigues, bananas, chili peppers etc. I figured if she had to look at my white ass everyday I could at least have something to laugh about. I even had to have my leg x-rayed to be sure it was “just” cellulitis and not a blood clot because my calf was very dark red, swollen and peeling and hurt to the touch. After the first 10 days of antibiotics I was prescribed another 10 days. I am completely better now with just some residual skin peeling from the area.

As titillating as that story was I only mentioned it if there is some correlation to my bad prostate test.

Thanks for reading.

Glad you made it through all that, Ponch! We all are hoping to hear good news from you in a couple of weeks!

Since on TRT, how often have you ejaculated?

If I am having sex during the week sometime I generally dont jerk off because I want to give the visual of a huge load. If I am not trying to impress anyone then I normally jerk 2-3 times a week.

Which probably helps keep his prostate, seminal vessicles, etc. in good condition.

Not too long ago though I was only jerking off once a week or so, maybe less. I think it does help keep all the parts working properly. I think in this case more is better for my health even if I dont produce the money shots that I can for abstaining.

I guess you never did find out what bit you 789?

Hope you feel better mate.

Some pretty good news

Well I went to the doctors office four times last week. I had two more PSA tests done and a followup with two different doctors.

The two PSA tests came out much lower than the 3.5+ test from a couple of weeks ago. The results were 2.2 and 1.02 respectively. I had been on Levaquin during that time for a bout of tonsilitis. So the doc wanted to cancel my appointment with the urologist but I said, dont cancel it I should go anyway, the referral is already made as well as the appointment.

My second doctors visit was with a clinic that just opened up in old downtown Melbourne. The doc was very thorough, I went thru my history and showed him my records which I always keep. He did one of the PSA tests and he did a digital exam and said everything felt fine. As he had his finger up my ass I mentioned to him that according to my wife he may find my head up my ass. He burst out laughing and had to stop the exam and re-insert when he stopped laughin. So I got a double digit exam.

He told me that he was not a fan of drugs outside the “black book”. He was making a reference to a list of drugs that they are willing to prescribe at their clinic and Androgel is outside that list.

He did say that over the years he has seen plenty of guys on Androgel, Andropatch and the testosterone shot. He felt the gel was the most stable and had the least side effects. He felt the patch doesnt stay secure enough for an even distribution of the drug and he felt the testosterone shot had more highs (when you first get the shot) and lows (when you next need a shot) and the absolute highest risk of prostate cancer. The doc also said that almost every guy complained of weight gain, many of them (including me) have also had hypertension (high blood pressure) issues. Which I never had before. He said I was trading off one thing (quality of life, great erections) for another (weight gain, HBP, etc). I complained about my nut size and he said my testicles wouldnt come back until my body starts producing its own testosterone and not getting it from supplementation.

His parting words to me were 1)since I have good insurance I should see the urologist and take advantage of all and every test available while I am on TRT and 2) to come back and fill him in on what the urologist says and does because most people never come back and tell them the true end results of their followup.

So thats where I am at now. I get a urologist visit on July 5th and then back at my doc on Sept 11. Other than that I am doing pretty good.

Thanks for the report.

Follow-up info is very important and good he asked for it. And good you are under the care of a couple of them. If it’s ever necessary, they can put their heads together, not coinciding, of course, with the one up your ass. That was a funny story.

Your PSA is steadily dropping, yes? 1.02 the last time the way I read your post?

Prostatitis

Because of a previously high PSA test last month my primary care physician sent me to see a urologist. The appointment was yesterday. I had filled out the forms and wrote on them that I was on TRT, Propecia as well as some blood pressure meds. I also mentiioned this to the doctor who is supposed to be a good one. I know, I know, everyone is always referred to the “best” doctor, lol.

The doc and I talk, he didnt rush and said he was “shocked and pleasantly surprised” at the way I kept the medical file on my TRT and my questions. ( I guess guys on TRT dont ask questions or keep files lol) After talking he wanted to do a digital exam. So I pulled down my pants and put my elbows on the table. He does the exam and tells me that I have prostatitis and wants to put me on Cipro for a month and then take another look. We talked about how I had been on many many weeks of Cipro and Levaquin and he said that we would try for 15 days but he would write the presciption for additional refills if I wasnt feeling better. He also said that it can take up to 6 months sometimes to cure it.

I really dont have any of the symptoms except for the mushy prostate gland. The doc described that the prostate should feel like the base of your thumb (near your wrist) firm with some give but mine feels like the upper part of the base of my thumb (near the first knuckle) soft and mushy. Although today it feels like someone punched me in my ‘taint area.

I have been reading that saw palmetto and prostate massage (not necessarily together) can help with prostatitis. Oh and also, the doctor told me that coffee and red wine can aggravate the prostatitis.

If any of you can enlighten me on treatments that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
