So yeah, it was a combination of two main things. Bear in mind that what worked for me might not work for other guys, and that my case was probably just caused by an overfamiliarity with masturbation and porn and an underfamiliarity with the feel of a vagina (I was a bit of a late starter and was in my early 20s before I was in a relationship that actually involved pretty regular sex.
Anyway, I found out somewhere or other about this stuff called yohimbe, which is a drug made from the bark of a tree that grows in Africa. I was naturally skeptical of a legal ‘sex-enhancing’ product but actually it really does work. It’s a moderately strong stimulant - not as strong as amphetamine but I’d say a fair bit stronger than coffee, for instance - that increases blood flow to erectile tissue and greatly enhances sensitivity and reduces the the amount of stimulation and time taken to reach orgasm. It also makes orgasms more powerful and reduces the refractory period (the time after you’d had an orgasm in which it’s impossible to have another - resets your body to being about 13 years old, in other words).
Now there are any number of yohimbe products available online, some of which may well be bunk, so what you want is one called ‘standardized extract’ or something similar, that contains a stated amount in mg of ‘yohimbe alkaloids’. I think there are several active compounds but the main one is called yohimbine. It’s available in a pharmaceutical form called Yocon in the USA but I believe it’s prescription only. Doesn’t matter though, as the capsules with standardized extract in them work just fine.
Apart from the desired sexual effects, it has a few side effects, such as slight excess sweating, increased heart rate and salivation. These shouldn’t be anything you can’t handle if you take a sensible dose but I’d be very careful about combining it with other medicines (see below). It also stimulates the digestion somewhat so you might want to take an Imodium (loperamide) just as a precaution. But you may not even get these symptoms, I’m sure it varies from person to person like these things do. Just start off with a low dose and work up if you feel you can handle it after a week or two.
As I said, it *is* a stimulant and particular care should be taken if you have any risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease - family history of heart trouble, smoker, overweight, all the usual things. Although from what I gather, most TP members seem to keep their whole bodies in reasonable condition, so that shouldn’t be an issue for most guys here. You might want to talk to your doctor (assuming s/he has heard of yohimbe - it’s still not a widely used supplement, I think) if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or anything like that.
A note on drugs: I know MAOIs are a really bad thing to combine with stimulants - not sure about SSRIs, although it’s worth repeating what I said above about starting small and working up. You might even want to start by breaking a capsule earlier and seeing what taking half of the contents does before you try taking a whole one at a time. If memory serves, the kind I usually bought contained 8 mg of alkaloids per capsule and I would take between one and three (and never more than that) in a day, depending on what I was up to and how I was feeling. I haven’t used it in years now but thinking about it has prompted me to order some, as I enjoy it purely for making orgasms more intense. It seems to work just as well on women, which is hardly surprising that women’s erectile tissues are basically the same as men’s.
The other and arguably more important aspect was that I had a very supporting and non-judgmental girlfriend at the time, who was also very hot and great in bed, and the fact that she never made me feel bad for not being able to come through sex and was obviously really pleased when I did manage it. I did make something of an effort to cut down on porn and masturbation, but wasn’t always successful as we were long-distance (like, trans-Atlantic long distance) so we were apart for several weeks at a time. I guess this is probably a less important for guys suffering DE as a result of medicines, however.
One final thing was that I started always using a lubricant for masturbation - I settled years ago on Vaseline as the best substance - and always apply a little after showering, in order to replace the natural oils that are lost through washing. It helps keep the skin nice and fresh and sensitive. I’m not circumcised but for guys who are, this could be even more important. I’ve also heard that foreskin restoration is great for guys who were cut as babies - why we’re still keeping up this idiotic practice in the 21st century sure as hell beats me.
Anyway, good luck and I hope that’s been of some help!
MODS: is it allowed for me to post information on the brands I used to buy? I've got no commercial connection with any of them, it would just be information for other TP members.
