You are absolutely correct, consistency is key, (measurement origin doesn’t matter for measuring growth, as long as you always start in the same place). However, measuring for gains and measuring for absolute length are not the same, especially to compare to other guys. Measuring for absolute length (usable length) is done bone pressed. It is measuring your usable length that you could use during sex. Therefore, changing position to “gain” an extra inch is not accurate.
I think you already know this though, the wording was just incorrect.
