Hello everyone,

I’ve started jelqing a week ago, but I’m unsure of my technique and I have these questions:

When I jelq, my head gets very big and feels as if it’s going to explode. Is it supposed to be like this?
And, after jelqing I don’t feel sore at all. I just can’t feel my penis during my jelq session and a couple of minutes after, like when you’ve been sleeping on your arm and you can’t feel it when waking up. But after a couple minutes I don’t feel anything special like soreness or anything. I’ve read on numerous posts that I should feel sore, is this true? And what might I be doing wrong?
Also, is it normal if I can’t feel my penis when jelqing?

My routine: jelqing for 15 minutes every other day, stretching for 10 minutes every 4 days. (Actually I jelq for 30 minutes but I have to break every 2 minutes because I keep getting hard, 15 minutes is fair to say).

I do feel sore for days after stretching, only at the very base of my penis (not near the head, it rather feels like I’m stretching the part of my penis that’s inside my body). That’s why I stretch less often.

I think from what you posted you may be over doing it for a newbie. Take it slow, man. Stretching for a newbie should be 5 minutes. Are you warming your penis before hand also? It’s important. Also Jelqing for a newbie should be no more than 10 minutes or about 200 jelqs. Don’t get carried away, it’s easy to do.

I’m not really “sore” after my routine. My penis just feels well worked out. For me it’s no worse than a nice long session of hard sex or what a good workout at the gym would do to my muscles. I guess there’s a slight soreness, but it’s a good type.

When jelqing, how hard are you squeezing? You could be cutting off the blood flow too much causing your dick to go numb. Also are you jelqing only your shaft and not the glans?

I stop right before the glans. Squeezing pretty hard, otherwise it just feels like masturbation (but it doesn’t hurt, except on my glans from the hard pump). That’s what I’m most curious about, is my glans supposed to be almost exploding?
I’ve read that when jelqing you’re supposed to pump blood to your glans so is it a good thing when your glans is pumped this hard. It’s really even bigger than when I have a full erection when jelqing! And feels uncomfortable.

I’d reduce the pressure, you may be risking permanent nerve damage in your penis. An average sensitive penis is better than a big numb one.


Problem solving with fire.

My suggestion would be to dial back, probably even take a break for a few days to a week to let your dick rest and start over. The newbie routine sais to start off with 10 minutes jelqs and 5 min stretches, start there or even lower if you think it might be too much. I have been running this routine for 2 months and I’m currently up at 9 minutes stretch and 13 minutes jelqs 4 days a week, and I think even less would work too.

Numbness sounds like a circulation issue, are you clamping at the base or something? Either way I think you are going too hard, dial back and ease into it over the first weeks. There is no rush, and rushing anyway will increase your risk of injury. You should also be able to jelq through your erections, at least that’s what I do. I just think of it as the pressure from inside the penis building up to assist me to get the expansion I need with the pressure from my hand, which means I can slightly reduce my grip tightness and keep going. Always staying under any pain threshold.

Pain from stretching should be avoided to the greatest extent possible. You can have minor numbness or ache shortly after a sessions, but having for several days is too much. Again, dial back, there is no point in overdoing it and regretting it later. Also I found that the ligaments around the base of your penis are pretty tight when you haven’t stretched them before, so go easy on them and make sure they are warm before your exercises.

Because I think it’s supposed to get big -it makes sense when pushing blood to your head-, however, on the video the guy’s head just stays small/normal size. So is it the instruction guy doing it wrong or is it me I’m unsure.

The video guy is doing a jelq at a fairly high erection level, so naturally the difference is going to be small. The more flaccid you do your jelqs, the bigger the relative pump effect on your glans. That might be it. Also I don’t see any reason to think the head gets ‘too’ big, unless it hurts or you don’t want to make the glans bigger.

Exactly. Unless you’re having pain or think that you are pushing your dick too hard, I’d bet expansion is a good thing. But if you fear that you are about to hurt yourself, go easy for a while and ramp back up as you feel comfortable.

I was fascinated by how swollen my glans were getting when I first started jelqing, but not to the point where I was worried. The first few weeks I think should be about finding out what level of intensity works for you, so take it easy if it feels uncomfortable.
