Your experiences with newbie routine, or: when, why did you switch

I had done some lousy routine of my own through most of July, but switched to the newbie routine in mid August. I’m seeing decent results it — definitely gains in length and girth. I definitely plan on finishing out at least two months, possibly three, on it, just to get used to PE before I try something more advanced.

I feel that this question is somewhat premature, but I can’t help but be curious about when is a good time to enhance the newbie routine or switch to something different? I guess the reason I’m curious is because it’s not clear to me that I should switch at all if I am still seeing gains on this routine after the next couple months (I.e. Why mess with a good thing?). On the other hand, I can see some reason for trying new things: maybe better gains could be had? But then again, maybe not — maybe it would result in over training or time wasting?

I know that I’ll have to try things out on my own, to see how things work for me. But, I was wondering about your experiences with this issue: Did you stop seeing reasonable progress with the newbie routine before switching routines? Did you continue to see gains but switch anyway? Something else altogether?

You got it right: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Do the newbie routine until you stop seeing gains, and then do it for another month to cement your gains.

After that you should start adding reps / exercises.

Any 2nd opinions?

You just answered your own question. If what you’re doing is working, then don’t change a thing until it stops working for you. Exhaust your current routine until you see zero gains, then step it up, overdoing it now may possibly lead to slower gains later due to premature toughening.

My first month on the newbie routine bagged me almost a half inch in length, so I will definately not be changing anything for this month, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.

You gave yourself the perfect answer to your own question. If it is working, you should keep with it. When you stop seeing gains for a while, then it is time to change things up but until then, enjoy the wonderful world of newbie gains. :)

Persistence, you have some good advice from WhiskeyFish, Maverick38 and Skeebo.

If the Newbie Routine is producing gains, stick with it. You can always make changes later if/when your gains stall.


For Lampwick, becoming hung like a donkey was the result of a total commitment.

You got it right, stick to the newbie routine as long as it produces results! This is such a crystal clear principle that it should be enforced by the law! :)

Don’t be fooled by the mirage of better gains coming from some other routine. A new routine may not work for you at all. The best routine is that which produces any gains. You should switch only when you get sure you have exhausted all the gains from the newbie routine.
