How long can you hold a stretch without injuring?

Hi guys

I was trying to do the A-Stretch (Inverted V-Stretch) for the first time and I was holding for… I don’t know, maybe just a minute and when I released my hand there was this big blue bruise (almost hard) in one side of my penis. :(

I’ve got similar bruises from stretching (always when I stretch with my right hand) but far smaller and lighter and was wondering, since I’m still doing the basic stretches, for how long can you hold a stretch without injuring yourselves?

For me I can’t barely make a 30 second hold without having my hand to slip off or, as I could see now from my first experience with baby powder, I can, but I’ll end up injuring myself. :(

Is there any gripping advices? It’s somehow a complicate thing because… I actually CAN hold the grip well but if I do I end up injuring myself by putting lots of pressure on the grip.

I think I can make to my length goal only by doing basic stretches but I would really appreciate if somebody can help me on this.

When I started I found 10-15 second holds enough in terms of how it made me ache.

I’m now at 30-40 second holds.

I don’t find it hard keeping a grip.

I always grip between my thumb and next finger with my parm facing down, although for upwards holds I do feel my unit slip. I’ve not yet used two hands for stretching, because as long as I can feel the stretch with the pressure from one hand, I don’t consider I need the extra force.

I’m aiming to go to 1 minute holds in the next few weeks, but no further than this.

If creating a grip is really a problem, hanging may be an option for you.

Are you really, really warmed up? I can hold manual stretches for a real long time without injury, but then it depends on the intensity I suppose. That’s why I like manual stretching- because you can control intensity so easily. Good luck with it.

I guess I am… I do a 5-10 hot wrap with the rice sock and my penis gets really hot. I try touching with the top of my hand to see how warmed it is and I can almost burn my cold hand with the heat from my penis. :P

It sounds like the bruising is from the amount of pressure you are using to grip, rather than the amount of time you spend stretching. Try using a piece of toilet paper to help your grip.

This depends on how hard you pull when you stretch. The harder you pull the tougher it will be to hold the grip, if you ease back a bit I think you’ll be able to hold the stretch longer. But I think a 30 second hold is perfectly normal. Just a tip about toilet paper, it’s a great for the grip but it’s also tough on the skin so don’t pull too hard and for too long with it on, I did and my skin got damaged and sore.

Yes, Figo, that’s the problem… but it seems obvious (I can’t see how it could be different) that if I don’t squeeze I won’t hold the grip, so, what can I do? Is there a way to hold the grip without applying that high amount of pressure?

P.S.: If I don’t pull as hard as I can I can easily hold the grip but this way I don’t feel the tension on the ligs at the base of my penis.

I have never got any injuries from stretching. I can hold stretches up to 1.5 minutes and no problem. Bruises, dots or otherwise?

Lucky yours, aom… I only had small red bruises 2 times from stretching and, when I tried stretching for a longer time (1 minute), a blue blister/bruise appeared. : /

It’s just skin damage, it vanished completely in the next day after my jelqing session but still… I don’t want to keep damaging me every time I want to hold a long time stretch. :(

P.S.: Maybe if I progressively increase my stretching time? What do you guys think?

Today I could hold a basic manual stretch for 1 minute and no problems appeared. :D

So… this got me thinking that maybe the problem is the A-Stretch (Inverted V-Stretch).

When you guys do (if you do), do you pull forward or downward?

I don’t know why you are so concerned about how long your holds last. What grip do you use by the way? I think it’s a good approach to try to stretch in all directions.

Yes, thats the way. I started out with 10 second holds per stretch and added as time went on. Normal stretches are 30-60 seconds for me. V and A are longer though. Best way to avoid problems are to work your way up.

Excuse me? It is the basics of science and any exercise, work = force x distance.

From my experience of weights it is fairly clear. You can increase the work you do by either increasing the force(weight) or the (distance) duration of what you do.

So the time you hold for can and is as important as the force you apply. This is clearly why it says in the newbie routine you increase the work which you do, to yield more work on your unit and hope to continue to provide results.

Why exactly do you think hold duration isn’t important? I’d like to hear your logic for that statement?

Stretching is primarily about fatiguing the tissues. Hanging is basically one long stretch; JAI stretching is a series of short stretches. The cumulative time stretching is more important than ‘how long your hold lasts’, as long as it lasts long enough for the tissues to relax into the stretch.

Letting the tissues relax into the stretch is vital, so applying the stretch slowly (and releasing it slowly too), while feeling what is happening to your penis is the key to good stretching, regardless of how long each stretch is. Learning to feel, knowing when your penis feels ‘worked’ (how fatigued the tissues are), will help you know how you get the best out of any stretch, regardless of method or time or tension applied.

If you stretch slowly, you naturally only increase your grip as you apply more stretching force, so you never grip harder than you need to.
