Infrared lights cause nerve damage?

Hey fellow PE-ers! I was just told my someone that infrared lights, which I use for heating my unit, can kill nerves? I wa sunder the impression it was a great way of heating and actually healed nerves!? If someone asked me I would say I think it regenerates them as well, because since using and doing more PE, I have become more sensitive down there. Anyone have any feedback?

I’ve never heard that.

Where’d this information come from?

Before: I'd like to show you something I'm very proud of, but you'll have to move real close.

After: I\'d like to show you something I\'m very proud of, but you guys in the front row will have to stand back.

Well believe it or not, it came from someone who works for LApdist when I called them on the phone. That was fairly reputable in my opinion but I went to you guys first word.

Better not sit in front of a fire then. Or too close to a good old fashioned lightbulb. Or out in the sun. Fuck, stay away from radiators as well!

Haha okay I get the point. I’m glad you guys know more than I do, I was ALMOST believing it.

Infrared (IR) wavelengths do not have the same energy levels as other forms of light. They do not directly penetrate materials easily. The energy from IR heats the surface. Underlying material then heats through conduction. Radio frequency or microwaves can more easily penetrate tissues - not IR. An IR lamp may damage tissue if you drop it on your member or you leave it under the heat lamp like an overdone wiener at a 7-11!

To be honest I’ve always understood that infra-red heat penetrates tissue more efficiently than any other type of heat. A quick search revealed this site

Which has some observations on IR . But I’m not a scientist, so I can’t give a definitive opinion.

Psst! The link is at the bottom of the page :bigwink:

Yeah, but you need to really heat badly to cause nerve damage. I’d venture that you really damaged your skin before that.

Edit: or at least it seems that way to me.

Watch for cataracts, I.e. Don’t look into the light.

I exchanged a few posts some months back with a guy that kept insisting infra-red would cause nerve damage. I always wondered what his source was; perhaps he had talked to LAPD?

There are some interesting claims.

In the article that mile-long-dong cites, IR is used for Alzheimer’s treatment. From the article: “Low level infra-red red is thought to stimulate the growth of cells of all types of tissue and encourage their repair. It is able to penetrate the skin and even get through the skull.”

More from the article:

“We age because our cells lose the desire to regenerate and repair themselves. This ultimately results in cell death and decline of the organ functions - for the brain resulting in memory decay and deterioration in general intellectual performance.

“But what if there was a technology that told the cells to repair themselves and that technology was something as simple as a specific wavelength of light?”

So, that would tend to be an argument against IR killing nerves. That’s the last thing you’d want to do to someone with Alzheimer’s.

And note that the treatment in question was only ten minutes, which they claimed was long enough to have an effect.

For Lampwick, becoming hung like a donkey was the result of a total commitment.

I agree completely lampwick.

Unless you’re in the will.
